Poppy never knew one person could be so funny.

The only thing that could compare were her nightly sitcoms which made her cackles bounce off the walls of her home. She could even recite every line from any hysterical scene that came to to mind.

But none of that could compare to the mind boggling manifestation of JJ Maybank.

Poppy had spent half the day on her phone texting him; each response met with a giggle and a smile. Poppy always had trouble talking to people, new ones especially. And even if she could, she would barely look them in the eye when she did.

But ever since she started talking to the blonde boy this way, things seemed simpler. Easy to the point of not worrying about saying the wrong thing. The only thing she had to worry about was what to say next to JJ's wild antics.

With the back-to-back-texting, Poppy had gotten to know him just a little more and each time he came to surprise her more and more.

JJ was loud and a bit brash when she first met him, straightforward even. He was always up for a laugh and has an interesting choice in pizza with pineapple toppings. Besides his choice on toppings, he was quite the charmer. He had a "magic" flare to him that made him magnetic.

His social confidence almost made her in awe of him. He almost reminded her of Kie with that similar spark. Poppy's nose crinkled before typing back.

Best dad joke? GO!

A chirp buzzed when she looked down.

Why do seagulls fly over the ocean?

Because if they flew over the bay, we'd call them bagels

A grin plastered over her face. She started typing back.

Lol 😂

okay that was a good one my turn

Biting her lip to think of something, a bulb lit in her head before she started typing back.

My wife is really mad at the fact that I have no sense of direction. So I packed up my stuff and right!

Poppy didn't have to wait long before another message dinged.

God that was terrible

Tell me another

Poppy swore she never texted this much, or at the very least spent half her dad goofing around. With JJ she was having a blast. Even if the world was ending and the sky was falling, she'd still be having a good time with him.

Who's your best friend and how long have you known them?

Three dings ringed on her phone.

John B definitely.

Met the dude in the third grade and besides me, he's the second best surfer I know

Just don't tell him I said that

As the day was burning away, he even got her to open up on some things that were rather personal.

Okay, I have a confession to make

Before she even finished her next text, a message popped up

You're madly in love with me already? I knew I was good, but damn
