Chapter 21: Between shadow and light

Reich woke up again while Soviet ran down the hall with him in his arms. Soviet Union kept glancing behind him in concern and then back at him. At some point he tore open a door and closed it quietly again. Tensely, he pressed his back against the door. As Soviet listened, Reich, trembling and cautious, placed his hand on Soviet's hand. He now looked at his friend and put his hand on his cheek. Third Reich felt the heat flow into him. Soviet put his head on the other side of Reich's face and cried a little. "What did they do to you?" Soviet Union looked him in the face again. "I'll get you out of here, I promise you that!" Everything went black again.

He felt pain all over his body again, but fortunately he felt a lot better than last time. He also felt someone lying on his stomach. Opening his eyes slightly, he saw a white wall indicating he was no longer with the Deep's. The one who was lying on his stomach seemed to be sound asleep. Reich painfully moved his head to the sleeping person to see who it was. Soviet was lying on him while the saliva dripped from his mouth onto the blanket. The Third Reich once took a particularly strong breath to wake up Soviet Union and he succeeded. Soviet opened his eyes and stretched a little before turning to his friend.

"Reich?" He got a snort in response. Soviet Union stood up before moving closer to Reich's face and placing his hand gently on Reich's arm. Reich's entire body winced at this, which made Soviet Union even more concerned. "Can you let me know how you are?" In response, Third Reich slowly moved his head back and forth. "What about your mouth?", he asked and Reich opened it. Soviet Union saw that some of his teeth were missing and others had been filed down to the nerves, only four of his teeth were untouched. "I can't believe it! What did they do to you?" Then the taller one burst into tears and laid his head on the bed.

Soviet cried incessantly until Reich managed to place his hand on his cheek. Soviet Union now looked up at him with tears in his eyes, then gave his friend a small smile. The tall Countryhuman moved closer to him and laid his head on the pillow just a few millimeters from Reich's face. Third Reich turned his head to his tall partner and lightly placed his lips on his. They closed their eyes for a few moments and enjoyed the kiss, then Soviet pulled away from him and gave him a slightly sad smile before wiping the tears from his face. "I'll be gone for a little bit." At that Reich squeaked like a dog and Soviet knew immediately that Reich didn't want to be left alone.

"I just have to call my daughter, it'll only take a minute." Then he left the room, made a call and brought Reich his favorite soup. "See, I'm back!" Third Reich began to squeak again because it had taken too long for him. "How about getting your favorite soup and seeing your child again in half an hour, as compensation?" Reich squeaked again, but this time in a more pleased tone. First Soviet made sure his head was slightly higher, then Reich opened his mouth slightly so Soviet Union could pour the lukewarm tomato soup into his mouth and he devoured the soup greedily, leaving his tall friend worried that Reich wasn't eating too quickly.

"Did you like it?", asked Soviet after Third Reich had finished eating. After nodding slightly, the taller one put the empty plate down on a table. Soviet Union grabbed the other bed in the room and placed it right next to it Reichs and lay down so close to Reich that they were only inches apart. "I missed you so much Reich! This week without you was unbearable for me and the children." Reich managed to lay on his side and put an arm on his partner. Soviet Union then drew closer to Third Reich. They lay there together for a while, Reich had already fallen asleep when someone entered the room.

Soviet nudged him briefly to wake him up. Reich looked around and recognized Estonia standing in front of them along with Finland. In her arms she held something wrapped in a blanket. Third Reich widened his eyes as wide as he could and a small smile formed on his face. He still wanted to get up, but was stopped by Soviet Union because he wanted Reich to lay still. Estonia put the little one in her father's arms before Soviet turned to his friend and handed it to him. Reich took the little baby and put it to his chest, then looked back at Estonia and Finland and symbolized how happy he was and how grateful he was to them.
