Y/N had the afternoon shift at Freddy's, lucky for her. She admittedly stayed up a little later than usual the night before. She was scavenging on the internet, talking to friends, binging a TV show, etc. The normal insomniac things.

Bags under her eyes, she entered the building. Only a few kids were running around, it was 1:30 PM, so most kids were at school. Only the toddlers who hadn't started school were there with their middle-aged, and rather exhausted-looking soccer moms.

Jeremy worked the morning shift that day, so there wasn't much for Y/N to look forward to. She was would miss that lovable idiot, he made the time go by faster. Work never felt like work with him. It was a gift Jeremy possessed to never stop talking. Like ever.

Y/N figured that William would want her help again today with the project, so she made her way toward the Parts and Service room where he was bound to be. The only other place he would be is his office.

As she approached closer she could hear the noise of a hand drill, it must be him. She walked in and saw the tall older man with his back towards her, leaning over the metal table with some electrical boards.

Being as quiet as she could she waited until she inched closer to him to announce herself. She stood about 6 feet away from him and casually let out a "Boo," putting no real effort into scaring him.

William looked back at her and smiled, "Was that an attempt to scare me?" He stopped working a moment, the drill was loud enough that he couldn't hear her otherwise.
"A poor one, but yes," she plops down on a stool next to the table. "Whacha workin' on?"

"Mm, nothing too interesting I suppose," William looks down at the small boards and wires on the table, "Mainly electrical things. The inner workings of the endo-skeleton. Yesterday we just completed the frame itself. There's plenty left to be done."

Y/N furrowed her brows and tried looking as if she understood him, "Ah, yes, those pesky electrical things. Always a real toughie," she was being pretty obvious that she had no idea what he was talking about. William just laughs quietly, "I figured you wouldn't know what I was talking about hun, but I appreciate your enthusiasm."

"Always happy to cheer you on boss," she does awkward finger guns at him, he just goes back to drilling things into their place. Y/N drowned out the dull hum of the drill as she began to get lost in thought. She focused her attention on Mr. Afton, or as she now got to call him, William.

Does he really not let Jeremy call him that?

Y/N didn't know what to think about that. Jeremy was probably just exaggerating to prove his point, he did that sometimes. Why would he need to exaggerate about that though? It was pointless.

"You look tired," William's voice broke Y/N out of her thoughts and back to reality. She didn't even notice William had stopped drilling, or that he was staring directly at her.

"How long was he looking at me?"

"Oh! Yeah! Sorry about that, I stayed up pretty late last night...and just had a busy weekend in general. Y'know, kids these days," she tried to brush off the fact he was staring at her.

"Was I staring at him?"

"I'm a bit of an insomniac too, I understand." William looks down, as if he was thinking about something. "You had a busy weekend you say?" he looks back up at her. Y/N tilts her head slightly, "I mean, yeah, I was just hanging with Jeremy and stuff-"

Y/N paused. Face going pink as she remembered.

"The fucking voicemail,"

William chuckled, he too was thinking about the voicemail.
"Is that what the missed call was about?" he could sense Y/N's embarrassment, which only made an amused smile etch on his face.

She groans and covers her face with her hands, "Oh my god, I'm so sorry about that. He just grabbed my phone and sent that! I tried to stop him but it was too late and he held my phone over his head and-" she was just rambling her way through the apology, she didn't care how long-winded it was. That was the least of her worries.

"It's alright, really." William interrupted gently, "There's no need to apologize," Y/N peeks her eyes over her hands, "But he bothered you, and was being stupid, through my phone too. I'm partly to blame."

"There was no harm in it. I was a little confused at first, but I found it amusing," he places a hand on her shoulder to solidify the point, he was trying to prove to her that he really didn't mind.

Y/N let out a long breath, running her hands down her face. "Alright, if you say so." William hums and takes his hand away from her shoulder once she was convinced. He began drilling again, the loud dull hum filling the room again as Y/N was left to sit with her thoughts.

"I didn't expect him to be so understanding..."

Sure, it was a harmless joke. It was almost though as if Y/N held William on a pedestal. He was better than her, he was far better than she and Jeremy's stupid jokes. Yet there he was, laughing along with her. She expected him to lecture her about how she and Jeremy should be more mature, or to never call him again. Of course, she expected the worse.

After a while more of William drilling he stopped and stepped back slightly. He was satisfied with his work. He turned his gaze to Y/N, who too was looking at his work. She had no real opinion on it since she didn't even know what it was really. But she was still impressed.

"I apologize you have to just sit there. It's probably boring, I assume," he leans against the table, facing her.
"No not at all! It beats waitressing tables, I'd give anything to do this all the time," she laughs, "That probably isn't the best thing to tell my boss, but the less work I have to do the better."

Normally, William would think this behavior was lazy. Yet he didn't, not at all. It was different of course because it was Y/N. Y/N wasn't lazy, not in his eyes. In his opinion, she was far too pretty to do any work. Not that he doubted her, he knew she was capable of doing it.

"Actually, I understand," William chews the inside of his cheek and glances away. He looked as if he was considering something.

Silence falls over them.

Eventually, William looks back at her.

"Do you like waitressing? I can't imagine being on your feet all day would be fun,"

Y/N perks up slightly, "To tell you the truth, no," she laughs awkwardly and avoided eye contact. She was embarrassed to admit that in front of her boss, especially since she just started the job.
"That's what I thought," William sighs and focuses his eyes on her completely.

"You know, Henry doesn't help me build anymore. He's too busy managing the place to do it. I don't hold it over him, not at all, I know he's busy. Lord knows he always has something to do..." William shakes his head slightly, shaking off the thought and getting back to the point.
"What I'm saying is, I need someone to help me with this project. I'm not saying this is long-term, since we only have to build one more endo-skeleton after this, but it would keep you away from waitressing for about...I don't know, a month or two?"

Y/N soaked up each word he said, "So I'd be like, your assistant?" she leaned in closer to show she was interested.
"Precisely that," William nodded, "Your pay would be increased during the span of this project since I'm asking more of you. You wouldn't need to do much, what you're doing right now is a perfect example. I just need someone to hand me tools, and do things as I need."

Beaming, Y/N hopped out of her seat on the stool. "I'd love to do that! That sounds awesome," William widened his eyes slightly at her complete willingness, a faint smile on his lips. "You're quick to jump into things aren't you?"

Y/N rolls her eyes slightly, "I'm excited, don't judge me. This sounds a lot more fun than waitressing tables all day!"

William chuckles and sticks his hand out, "So, we have a deal then?"

Y/N grabs his hand swiftly and shakes it, "Yes sir!"
