"What on Earth was she saying??!"
William was at home getting some work done, well, attempting to anyway. His mind was thinking of things far more important. He was thinking about Y/N of course. It's pretty much the only thing he thinks about anymore.
He doesn't even know why.
William was convinced she had put some hex on him, it was the only logical thing. He had never fallen for someone like this. Never this hard or quick, it came out of nowhere. She must've bewitched him, it was the only way.
It was the morning after the drunken phone call. While Y/N was able to sleep easy that night William could not. He did quite the opposite. He stayed up all night thinking about her. After Y/N had hung up the call his entire body felt hot, as if pins and needles were poking him.
Shaken he was, but how could he not be? Her words played in his mind over and over again like a broken music box.
"But like, I don't only think about you at work. You're also on my mind during the night when I'm in my bed, restless."
Her voice as she spoke was breathless, raspy, seductive. God that enough was driving him mad! What drove him madder was the fact he didn't know how much of that was true.
William was a man of reason, logic, and so he calculated the likelihood of how true her words could be. He wanted them to be true, he'd kill for them to be true.
His infatuation with her has grown more intense over the course of them working together. He didn't want it to stop.Ever
He had been purposely taking longer than usual to build the backup endo-skeletons he and Y/N were working on. Why? He just wanted more time with her. Every second he spent with her was heaven.
"What could I do to keep her with me?"
After the project was over she would have to go back to waitressing with Jeremy.
Jeremy, how he hated that man.
The blank typing document on his computer stared back at him as he found himself lost in thought. If he looked hard enough at the computer screen he could see his reflection. He pitied the man he was looking at.
Not that he was a loser, but because he was eloped in jealousy. He never would've thought this would happen to him. William always thought jealousy was a weakness. To be overcome by an emotion so whole-heatedly that it plagued his days, that as pathetic.
What made it worse was Jeremy was the root of all this.
The idiotic waiter. The one who flung pizza dough on the ceiling, got bubblegum stuck in Chica's mouth, caught the microwave on fire. He of all people knew how to push his buttons in just the right way. God he hated that boy!
His closeness with Y/N made him sick, and William was not convinced they weren't in some sort of relationship. He knew how Jeremy was, and it only made him all the more suspicious.
Letting out a loud groan William runs his hands down his face, he needed to focus. So far he hadn't even typed one thing on his finical report and it was due tonight for corporate. he was hopeless, utterly hopeless.
Pushing his chair back with a huff, William chews on his lip. He knew he needed to get this off his chest. He needed to tell somebody about this, but who? It's not like he can talk to Y/N about his obsession with her, of course not.
Only one name came to mind.
Henry.
God he didn't want to admit this to Henry of all people but it was his only option. Hastily he grabs his phone out of his pocket and dials the oh-so familiar number of Henry. His best friend since college, and the mastermind behind the Freddy's.
The phone rings only a few times before Henry picked up. His voice was as jolly-sounding as usual. This eased William's nerves a bit.
"Hey Will! What's up?"
William smiled to himself a bit, sighing as he did so. "Henry...boy am I glad to talk to you, you got a moment?"
"Well sure, I've got all the time in the world. What's going on?" Even if William couldn't see the strawberry blonde man in person, he could sense the smile on his face. That's what he loved about Henry, he was always so happy.
"I've got a problem," William runs a hand through his chestnut locks to collect himself, not even knowing how to put any of this into words. How could he? There was so much to say. "And this problem has made work impossible," he stressed his words as he spoke.
"Oh really? You never have a problem getting work done, is this that serious?" Henry's voice showed intense concern for his friend. It was unlike William to have any trouble with work. He always got things done on time.
"I'm afraid so, and it's actually quite embarrassing I'll admit," he pinches the bridge of his nose with his pointer finger and thumb, deciding to get to the point. "There's this girl...she's made it impossible to get anything done Henry..! I swear, I swear she's put some sort of spell on me or something," he laughed a bit at his own words, realizing he sounds quiet stupid.
He didn't care though, he didn't care how stupid he sounded. It was the truth.
"Ah, I see," Henry began smiling like an idiot, "You're having girl problems? Reminds me of our college days," he chuckled, even if he was taking this lightly he understood how important this was to William. If it was causing him trouble at work it must be important.
"Tell me about her, I'm all ears,"William chews the inside of his cheek. He couldn't tell Henry the truth. He couldn't tell him the girl who stole his heart was none other than Y/N. He had only known that girl for barely a month, not to mention she's a whole 10 years younger than him! What would Henry think? Sure, Y/N and William were mature adults, an age gap wasn't the worst thing in the world. But what would Henry think?
"She's gorgeous," he said quietly, "she's so unlike anything I've seen..."
"Aw, Will that's sweet! Do you think she feels the same way?"
William's face flushed pink as he remembered the phone call. All her flirtatious words she uttered in her drunken state, they were simple, just drunken slurs of half truth. Yet they kept him up all night.
"I'm not quite sure," William rests his head in his hand, "She called me drunk the other night and...said somethings," he stammered a bit, almost at a loss of words. "I'm not sure if they were true though, she was totally wasted Henry."
"Well, you know what they say," Henry shrugged casually, William perks up a bit at his words. "What are you talking about?"
"They say that drunken words are sober thoughts. Maybe what she said held some truth in it. You should ask her about it."William looked down for a moment. How the hell was he going to bring this up to Y/N? William was great at masking things and keeping his composure. But this? This was a little different.
"I'll...I'll try," he sighed, "Thanks for talking to me Henry, I really needed to get this off my chest..."
"No problemo pal! And keep me updated on what she says! I'm invested now," he laughed, making William smile again. It was hard to sulk in his obsession with his best friend laughing in his ear."I will, take care Hen'," he hangs up after a quick goodbye and stares at the ground some more. He thought about Henry's advice. It wouldn't hurt to talk to Y/N about this when he sees her on Monday. Even if the conversation would be incredibly awkward.
He looks back at the computer screen, still blank. His work unfinished.
God this girl practically owned him.
