They met for the first time when they were 5. She had short, light brown hair, slightly tanned skin, and bright emerald green eyes, and she was wearing nothing but a plain white dress. He had lighter skin, a pair of narrow, shiny, snake-yellow eyes, fox-red hair with matching freckles, ears, a tail, and a small pair of sharp fangs. He was wearing nothing but white pants and a tank-top. This is the beginning of their story....The room was white. White and big. There were many of them. Tamers. Young, very young, new Tamers. Two instructors. She had been surrounded by them for as long as she can remember, all of them had. The night before, she heard them, the instructors, whispering amongst eachother. They said It was time. She knew what they meant. She had always known. She had always known that the day would come when she would meet her partner. Her Soul Mate. Today* (past tense) was that day, they all realized it as soon as they woke up, eyes gleaming with anticipation, blood boiling, and filled with an indescribable feeling they had never felt before. Finally. The time had finally came when they would be alone no longer. The year before, they had been taught about the pairings, despite their young ages of 3 and 4. And despite each other's company, they longed for someone else to satisfy their loneliness. That was around the time they would gather the young Tamers with that longing and group them together until the time had come for them to 'partner up', or so the instructor's would say. After being taught about the pairings, this group wait 365 days, that is, a whole year that day to arrive, and it finally did.
They waited silently and patiently for further instructions of how the pairing of the Soul Mates worked, but the female instructor just walked to the front of the crowd, put a finger to her glossy red lips and winked a lashy eye.
"Don't worry, you'll know when you find them." she said as she lowered her finger and grinned, opening a door behind her that most of the youngsters failed to notice.
"And remember, call their name..." she reminded as the light on the other side of the door blinded them.
They all walked through with caution, filled with both excitement and fear. They've waited for so long, but what then? They're about the get their partners, but what happens after? All their doubts soon wash away as their feet touched the cold tiles of a long, narrow, grey hallway. What made this hallway narrow was the thick length of the cages aligned against the brick wall. Cages. Is that where they kept the Wilds? The children roamed around curiously, occasionally getting growls from the Wilds when they approached the wrong cage. Then, she heard a few Tamers whispering amongst each other after passing a certain cage.
"Did you see it?" Whispered one boy.
"Ya, he giving me creepys..." Said a younger boy.
"He scary..." Added a small girl.
"It's not a he, it's an it!" Snarled an older one. Both the smaller ones jumped and ran away.
He walked up to the cage of the Wild that all the children spoke of. There, the figure of small boy with fox-red hair, fluffy ears, and a tail, with claws sticking out of his fingers and toes, was all bunched up in a dark corner with his head tucked in his thin arms that wrapped around his folded knees. It's face couldn't be seen.
"Freak!" the older boy spat. There was nothing special about it.
The Wild slowly lifted his head, and in the darkness, a pair of frightening, glowing yellow eyes came into view. The boy that was mocking him was immediately filled with terror, feeling a very hostile vibe around the Wild that was growling lowly and glaring daggers into his very soul. Terrified, the boy winced and ran away.
Then Wild noticed many of the youngest in the group that had crowded around to watch, their little face now filled with utter fear as they just stood there and stared or cowered away, shaking. The Wild was immediately filled with regret as he stopped glaring and hid his face away once again.
