Crazy chapter ahead guys!! Lemme know your thoughts :)Bill turned on the radio again, making it crackle back to life. The same voice from earlier began speaking.
“Hello?”
“It’s us again,” Bill said through a breath, “we’ve run into some issues. There was a whole fucking…swarm or something…just waiting for us. We’re holed up in the cabin right now.”
“It’s alright…stay on the radio with us then, alright? Just give us a second…me and my partner have to clear out some stray zombies here…”
“Okay, okay,” Bill said through sharp, rapid breaths. He clutched at his thigh wound, praying that sludge didn’t get in there. Russell was currently searching around the shop for any extra supplies they’d need. Bill’s face was plagued with sweat, and he felt himself getting cold.
“Merin, I need you to listen to me…”
“What is it, Bill?”
“If…if I don’t make it, I’ll–”
“No, don’t say–”
“I never tell you to be quiet, but please, do it this once!” Bill suddenly raised his voice, making Merin whimper. “…I…I wish I could’ve done so much more for you, Merin…I don’t want this to be the end for me…but if it is…don’t look back. Stick with the others. They’ll protect you. If the situation calls for it, I need you to leave me behind. At this rate, I’ll be limping the whole way there…so please, listen to me.”
Merin choked out sobs. “But–”
“Listen to me!”
“O–Okay…”
Finn, Raphael, Juliet, and Russell all came together for a brief moment, hugging each other and saying their thanks for each still being alive. Bruce stood off to the side, all alone as he watched out the door. Russell attempted to solve this ostracism by roping Bruce into their hug, but he swatted away his hands.
“I don’t need your sympathy,” was all he could mutter.
“Look at that,” Raphael said, spotting a seeker’s leaf hat poking from behind a tree trunk. “Sons of bitches think they’re slick…”
He fired a shot at the tree. Bark flew off from the impact, and the seeker scurried away.
“Hey, dude what are you doing?” Russell asked as Raphael stepped outside.
Raphael ignored him and took aim, hitting the seeker in the back of the head while it was running.
There was a quick succession of whistles, and a group of infected rained down from the roof of the cabin.
“Got you!” Juliet exclaimed, hitting an infected on the head with her bat.
Russell made his way back to Bill to assist him while the others continued to protect the front. They did a good job at pushing them back, and once again the scarce waves stopped.
“Is that it…?” Juliet said through huffs.
“No…not as long as those fucking whistlers are still alive…” Bruce sighed, his chain dragging on the ground and leaving small chunks of flesh in a trail. “We need to kill them.”
At that moment, another short burst of whistles occurred, and the group braced themselves. They were confused at the fact that nothing showed up.
“The whistles are coming from the left,” Bruce declared.
