CHAPTER ONE- A tree for me

Ted walked to his mum, rolling his eyes when he noticed the oak-a-matic remote in her hand.
'Do you not like dancing anymore sweetie? I remember when you used to dance around the house in your underwe-'
'OK MUM, we get it, I used to dance. PLEASE don't say that in front of grandma? She'll go off about all these weird memories she has...'

He grabbed his coat and walked outside, kicking a rock at the glowing tree beside him. He walked to the store and searched the aisles for the rat poison. There was a scratching noise coming from the walls and his mum decided he had to be the one to kill them.

He grabbed a box, paid, and left.
'Home can wait' he thought to himself, laying down on the faux grass hills that surrounded this little town.

He stared around at the houses nearby, oak-a-matic's lighting up the sky, tiny compared to the big walls surrounding. He dreamed of getting out, finding a REAL tree. Not one with lights and a remote, one with silky smooth swirls attached to the rough wood trunk.
'One day...'
