Jude's POV
I open the door and close it behide me. It's 6:15 pm and the dance has started 15 minutes ago, which means that I'm not that late.
I run to school as fast as I can and get to the gym. I see Connor alone at the entrance of the gym. His hands are in his pockets and he's just looking around.
I walk slowly to him. "Connor."
He turns around. He sees me and smile instantly.
"You came." he says.
"Mariana convinced me."
I look at his right hand and take it.
"What are you doing?"
"I don't want to stay hidden anymore. Is that okay with you?"
"Yeah. Taylor is sitting at a table. Wanna go join her?"
"Yes."
We walk to the table where Taylor is sitting.
"Nice mask by the way." says Connor.
"Thanks, I like yours too. Almost didn't recognize you. It's a good thing I know the roundness of your butt." I replie.
"That did not just came out of Jude Adams Foster's mouth."
"I may have spend too much time with Mariana this week."
Taylor is eating cheese from a plate, looking really bored. It took her a moment to recognize us.
"Hey Taylor." I say.
"Jude! I'm so glad you came! I'm sorry about earlier. I shouldn't have forced you to come. You didn't come because of me right?"
"No, Mariana convinced me. But it's okay. You're like that. Always wanting to have fun to fullest, and that makes you a great friend."
"You're a great friend too. So who's ready to dance?"
"I am." says Connor.
"Me too." I say.
"Me three. Let's go." says Taylor.
The three of us walk to the dance floor. We dance and laugh as the loud music plays around us. After three songs, Taylor says that she needs to go to the bathroom. Connor and I are left alone in the middle of the dance floor.
"Um, do you want to go sit?" asks Connor.
"Yeah."
We sit at the table we were earlier.
"Let's tell tonight." I say.
"What?"
"Well not actually say it out load but you know, we could hold hands and dance."
"Wait, what are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about us. I'm ready. And I don't want to hide my feelings for you anyone. I can't honestly."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes."
As I say that, a slow song comes on. Connor smiles.
"Will you dance with me?" he asks.
I smile and nod. He takes my hand and pulls me to the dance floor.
"I have to tell you something." I say.
"Uh?"
"I can't slow dance."
"I'll show you. First, put both your hands on my shoulders. You can wrap them behind my neck if you want."
I do so and he places his hands on my hips. He then pulls me closer so that our bodies are touching.
"Now, listen to the music. Hear how the beat is always 1, 2, 3?"
"Yup."
"Follow those three counts with your feet."
I take a step everytime a count comes.
"1, 2, 3. 1, 2, 3. You're getting there. And we can also just move slowly with the music. Like this."
We slowly move from side to side. When I get the hang of it, I look around. People are looking, but they're also confused since we have masks.
"May I?" Connor asks, touching my mask. I nod.
He takes the mask off my face and I do the same to him. He lift my chin up with his fingers and lean slowly. He kisses my lips softly and I feel like a thousand butterflies came out of me. The music keeps playing and the other students disapears from my head. All I care about is Connor and his lips on mine.
He pulls away and put my mask back on. I do the same and we slow dance for another song. When it's done, we walk outside.
"People didn't even seem to care." says Connor.
"They don't actually. Or maybe it's just Matt warning them."
"Warning them? About what?"
"About what he'll do to them if they make fun of us."
"Mariana told him to do that?"
"Yeah."
"What a surprise."
"We should go home and get changed. Then we'll go see the movie."
"Okay."
"I had an amazing time."
"See, if you'd haven't come, you would've missed that."
"Yeah, I don't regret coming at all. Plus, people that saw us, our faces, know. That's a lot of pressure off our shoulders."
"Yeah."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
He takes my hand and we walk back home.
