Jude's POV

"What do you want for breakfest?" I ask Connor, walking into the kitchen.
"Whatever you're having." he replies.
"Can you believe it's already Thursday? With all that happened, the week went by so fast."
"I know right? That means we only have two more days together."
"Beside the fact that you're probably going to end up here this weekend, yes, we only have two more days."
Connor laughs.
"How about pancakes?" he asks.
"Pancakes it is." I look around me. "How do you make pancakes again?" I ask.
"You don't know how to make pancakes?"
"Don't judge! I've been in several houses and Stef always makes them for us!"
"That explains it. I can make them if you want."
"Sure." I gesture towards the pans and the mixing bowls. "Do your thing."
Connor grabs a big bowl and add some ingredients in it. He mix it until it's liquid and put some in a pan. He flips it a couple times until it's ready. Then he take one and put it in my plate.
"There you go." he says with a big smile.
"Thank you." I smell it. "Wow, it's smell so good."
"I hope it is good."
"You're about to know in like three seconds."
I take a bite and swallow it.
"I'm not kidding. These pancakes are better than Stef's. But don't tell her I said that."
"I'm glad you like them."
He put a pancake in his plate and we eat in silence. When we're both done, he takes my plate and put them both in the sink.
"So, you're ready to go to school?" he asks.
"Yes. I'll leave a note on the table saying we're walking to school."
"What time is it?"
"7 o'clock."
"Are they still sleeping?"
"Yeah. Lena should be up soon."
"Okay. How about we stop at the donut shop before school. We have time, right?"
"Yeah. Are you like starving or something?"
"Hahaha no I just love donuts. And then we'll eat the them at the beach."
"The beach at school?"
"Yeah. Don't worry, we'll be gone before someone sees us together."
I nod. "I don't want you to think that I wont ever want to come out. I want to. But only when the time is right."
"I totally understand. And I don't mind. Whatever makes you happy is fine with me."
I nod again and pull Connor into a hug.
"What's this for?" he asks in my neck.
"Nothing. I just like it."
"Me too."
We pull away from eachother and I take Connor's hand.
"Let's go then." I say, opening the door and walking outside.
We walk holding eachother's hand to the donut shop. In a way, I didn't care people seeing us. But in another way, I did. Not because of Connor, but because of the judgement that ir would've caused. They let go entering the shop.
"What do you want?" asks Connor.
"Just a chocolate one. Are you ordering for me?"
"Yeah. I'm also paying."
"You don't have too."
"It's like two dollars. I don't mind."
"Okay fine. But next time we eat somewhere, I'm the one paying."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"Okay well let's go eat at that very expensive italien restaurant tomorrow."
"Are you kidding me?"
"You said yourself that you would pay, so I'm taking advantage of the situation." says Connor, winking and smiling at me.
"Just order the donuts and we'll see." We laugh and Connor orders. I wait at the door and he comes back with two little bags and two cups.
"I didn't ask for anything to drink." I say.
"Well, I wanted a hot chocolate and I didn't want to look rude not bringing you anything."
"I wont say no to hot chocolate."
I take what's mine and we walk out of the shop. We head to the beach and when we're there, we sit on the sand, close to the water.
"Can I ask you something?" asks Connor.
"Sure."
"You know that dance Taylor was talking about."
"Yeah?"
"Do you want to come with me? Like, be my date?"
I think of it. Of what it would mean. Us two, alone with the whole school around. Dancing together. Being us in public. I want to, of course I want to. But I also want us to be fully comfortable with ourselves.
"Yes of course." I say anyway.
"For real? I didn't think you'd say yes. Since, you know, we didn't came out yet."
"We'll have masks on our faces, so no one will know it's us, right?" I say, positive that it might work.
"Yeah, right."
Connor puts the back of his hand on my thigh, and I take it.
"What time is it?" I ask.
Connor checks his phone.
"7:45. People will start arriving here. We should go."
We both get up and Connor kisses my cheek quickly. We then walk straight to our locker and get our stuff for first period.

*

Since we didn't have last period together, I have to wait for Connor at my locker.
~Text between me and Connor~

Me: Hey, I'm waiting for you at my locker.
Connor: okay, I'll meet up with you in 5 minutes. Gym teacher wants to talk to me about my foot.
Me: Okay

As I wait, I see Daria coming towards my locker. I look down, trying to avoid eye contact.
"Jude?" she says in a nervous voice.
I look up. "Yeah?"
"Can you tell Taylor I'm sorry? I don't think she wants to talk to me, but I want her to know."
"Um... You'd be surprise, but she thinks the same thing about you."
"Really?"
"Yeah, we visited her yesterday and she was sad you didn't come to see her."
"Oh my god, I feel bad now."
"Then you should go see her." I see Connor coming toward us. "Like right now."
"Why right now?"
"Hey Jude!" says Connor. Then he sees Daria. "Oh um hey... Daria."
"You're right Jude, I shouldn't waste time." she says, walking away fast.
"What did she want?" asks Connor.
"She wanted me to tell Taylor how sorry she is. I told her to do it herself. What did the teacher wanted?"
"He asked me if I wanted to join the soccer team when my foot is healed."
"What did you say? Are you gonna go on the team?"
"You seem pretty excited about it."
"Well, it would be fun for you. And I could go to every game!"
"Maybe I will."
"You should."
"Are you ready? You're going with Lena at the hospital to get Jesus and Mariana, right?"
"Yes, I can't wait!"
"Let's go then."
I carry Connor's books while he hops on crutches. When we get to Lena's office, we see her sitting at her desk, her hands on her forehead.
"Are you okay mom?" I ask.
She lift her head and her eyes are red from crying. I run to her.
"Mom, what's wrong?" I ask.
"Just wait for me in the car guys."
"C'mon." whispers Connor.
We get to the car and sit in the back seat.
"What do you think is wrong?" ask Connor.
"I don't know."
"She's coming."
Lena gets in and we drive home. I open the front and I see Callie, Brandon and Lena around the table.
"Lena! Stef told us you had something to tell us." says Callie.
"Everyone come around the table. Connor too, if you want." says Stef.
"So um, there was something wrong with Jesus during the night. He had some sort of a heart attack. They tried to reanimate him but..."
"He's not... dead, right?" Brandon asks, his voice breaking.
I don't want to hear more, so I run up to my room.
