Kasia
After we all exit the car with our clothes back on, the guys remove the jumper cables from my battery. I hop into the driver's seat and turn my key in the ignition, exhaling when it turns over. I smile, stepping out of the car and looking at the guys.
"I think that will get me home at least." I say, gesturing towards the hood of the car that Keagan is now closing. "I'll call a mechanic in the morning to see if the battery needs replaced."
"Don't let them scam you into a ridiculous price." Simon says, rolling up the jumper cables. "If it's anything over two hundred dollars, just call me instead."
A smile forms on my lips, my brows furrowed together. "What are you going to do, threaten him for a better price?"
"If I have to," he says, shrugging his shoulders. "But it shouldn't come to that. They'll only try to rip you off because you're a pretty girl who they assume doesn't know any better. If I walk in there, I guarantee I will get a different price."
I nod, pushing my hair back from my face. "Thank you again. All of you. I appreciate everything."
I watch as all three of them smile, knowing exactly what they are thinking. Not only am I thanking them for getting my car running but also what happened while we waited. Henry's cheeks fill with a blush as he looks towards the ground.
"Okay, I'm leaving." I chuckle, waving goodbye and getting back in the driver's seat.
"Bye, loser." Keagan says before my door can slam shut.
I scowl at him through the window, shaking my head and pulling away. I watch in the rearview mirror as they wave, smiling to myself. When I get back to my place, I use the bathroom and collapse in bed, completely exhausted.
-
The next morning, I wake up to my phone ringing. I groan, reaching for it without even opening my eyes. I can't seem to locate it on my nightstand despite it ringing over and over loudly.
"What the fuck?" I moan in annoyance, opening one of my tired eyes to the bright light that peeks through my windows.
My phone stops ringing as I knock over almost all the contents on the top of my nightstand with my clumsy hands. My fingers do latch around my alarm clock though and as I bring it up close to my face and open my eyes, I see that it isn't in fact morning but is already well past lunch time.
I groan again, rolling onto my back and rubbing my eyes. My phone starts ringing again and I sit up quickly, leaning over the side of my bed to grab it from where it fell on the floor earlier. I manage to grab it before it goes off, answering the call and putting it to my ear before I even look to see who it is from.
"Hello?" I say, my voice groggy.
"Kasia?" the person on the other end says.
"Keagan?" I ask, the voice sounding familiar.
"Hey," he says, confirming it is him. "So there's a party happening tonight. We want you to come with us." he says.
"A party?" I ask, my sleep riddled brain still struggling to process.
"Yeah, at one of the hockey team houses. It's supposed to be a huge thing."
"You want me to come with you?" I ask, sitting up in bed.
There is a pause on the other end, then he chuckles. "Yeah... are you on drugs or something? Why do you keep repeating everything I'm saying?"
"Drugs? What... no. I just woke up."
"It's almost 2 o'clock in the afternoon..."
I sigh, pushing my hair out of my face. "You're not making me want to spend the evening with you."
Keagan chuckles again. "Well I don't know if I want to spend the evening with you anymore. You know if I get caught seeing someone who is high all the time, I'll get kicked off the team."
"I'm not on drugs, you asshole."
"You don't sound so sure." he says and I can hear the way he is smiling in his voice.
"Why do you get so much enjoyment from arguing with me, Keagan?"
"Because it is just so easy, sweetheart."
"Yeah you know all about easy." I mumble, gritting my teeth. "I think I'll just go back to sleep and forget about your invitation."
"No, wait-" he says from the other end.
"What? Are you going to beg for forgiveness? If not, I don't really want to hear it."
Keagan scoffs. "I'm not into the whole begging thing actually."
"You don't sound so sure." I say, mimicking his tone from earlier and repeating his words. "You should try it though, from what I know about you, it might turn you on."
"You don't know a thing about what turns me on." he says, his tone sharp.
"Now we both know that's not exactly true." I say, smiling widely because I know I am getting a rise out of him.
As if on command, Keagan exclaims. "You know what, I thin-"
His words are cut off by a scuffle on the other side of the phone. I furrow my brows, trying to listen in. Eventually, the ruffling noise stops and another voice speaks into the phone, sounding like they are breathing heavily.
"Kasia?" Henry's voice flows out of the phone.
"Yes, Henry?"
"Please come out with us tonight." he says, sounding bright and hopeful. "It is going to be so fun."
I smile, already knowing that I am going to agree. I have never been one to turn down a party. If there is going to be alcohol and guys there, I'm already in. Especially when the latter of those things is asking so nicely for me to attend.
"You can invite your friends if you want." Henry adds, trying to entice me further.
"Okay," I say, agreeing. "But you guys will have to pick me up because of my car."
"You got it. We'll be at your place at eight." Henry says.
"I'll see you then." I say, smiling and hanging up.
I set my phone down on the bed and get up, heading towards my closet to get ready and smiling to myself at what the night could have in store for me.
