The next day came, and everyone was spending as much time as possible with Conny in hopes of her not leaving just yet. As the children played yet again after a good day's breakfast and their usual test, Ray sat beneath his tree and watched the other older ones run around with the younger ones like a bunch of monkeys.
The one person he noticed never among them, like himself, was y/n. He didn't see her at breakfast in her usual place either. Y/n comes walking out of the building in her uniform, holding to her side a notebook. It was f/c, with [enter accessories] paste to it. It wasn't anything special, but it was simple and presentable.
Y/n approaches Ray and sat beside him. The boy scoots over, surprised she was even sitting next to him. Though they were related by contract, they hardly ever talked. "Hello, brother." Said y/n, after a long time of silence. "Hi. Sister." He glanced at her, looking at her small book as she wrote in it.
"What're you doing?" He asked. "I'm writing." She stated the obvious. Ray rolled his dark eyes and pressed on. "I mean, what are you writing?" Y/n rolled her eyes next, writing no longer. "A poem." He naturally grew interested. "Yes." Before he got a chance to question her on what she was writing, Norman comes over.
Emma, Ray, Don, and Gilda are behind. They all sit together around Ray, who looked back to his book and tried ignoring their existence. "You always win Norman~" Don complained. "Sorry." Emma squeals going closer to Ray and grins, "Ray, you should join us! You never play with us!" "Can't you see I'm busy?" The black-haired male asked.
"Y/n, you're so much like Ray! Why don't you play?" Y/n simply glared at Emma. "I don't like to play silly games like you guys. I'd rather sit and play chess. Then run around and waste my energy." Gilda giggled, "waste energy huh? You save it up so much you'd probably have tons more left." Y/n only rolled her eyes, just about ready to leave.
"Aw come on y/n, it was only a joke." Said Norman, giving her that sweet smile. Y/n sits back down, folding her legs as she kept writing. Norman didn't want to take his eyes off her. He leaned in closer and watched her writing, "whatcha doing?" She scoffed but told him anyway, "I'm writing a poem." Y/n looked up but scooted back surprised he was so close to her.
"I'm sorry, did I scare you?" Norman asked with a slight smile. "Yes. A bit." She lied. Norman felt his cheeks flush pink. The way her eyes averted from his own was too precious. Y/n didn't want to admit it, but at that moment she felt something tingle in her heart.
Emma stands, running over to hold Phil in a bear hug and Conny as well. Don and Gilda follow behind. While they did so Ray left inside and it was just y/n and Norman.
There was silence once more. He glanced at her, "you know... you're really pretty." He compliments her. "I know." Y/n simply responds. Norman frowned but it quickly went away when y/n looked up and stared into his blue eyes. "I think you're pleasant." The first time she ever complimented anyone.
Norman's heart rate increased. "T-thank you." He told her. "Yes. No problem." She looked back down and finished off her words. "Perfect." She whispered. They sat there for who knows how long. Y/n didn't want to admit that she was enjoying his presence. Isabella walked out of the building, it was dawn and she was just about ready to call them in.
Y/n's head unconsciously lay on his shoulder as she was so in dept with her writing and his soft breathing in her ears. Y/n looked up at him, shocked at their position. She wanted to move but she couldn't. This felt too good to be true.
He looked down at her and gave a small smile. "Am I making you uneasy? I'll leave if you want." She simply shook her head and closed her notepad, going closer to him nervously. Norman smiles wrapping an arm around her shoulder and laying his head on top of hers.
"That's good...I don't wanna move yet either." Isabella's breath hitched and her lips became a straight line. She stood there for a few more minutes before walking over and calling out to them. "Y/n! Norman! Come inside it's getting late."
Norman stands first helping her up. They walk behind Isabella who heads inside. "It's sad, Conny's getting adopted tonight." Said Norman. "Yeah... it's too bad. I'm going to bed early, I'm not hungry." She told him. Before Norman got a chance to ask her why she already left.
Isabella stood before the children with a hand on Conny's shoulder, smiling at them all. Don sobbed, "don't forget us!" Conny teared up but soon wiped her tears, "I won't! I'll write to you every single chance I get!" Before they left though, Isabella had a strange feeling at the pit of her stomach and she gave them a small smile.
"Excuse me, wait here Conny." She left quickly and came back minutes later. "Well.."
[Time skip...]
That morning y/n got up first and as usual, she left to go lay beneath that tree of hers. She was met by Norman who always came to get her. "Y/n! Come breakfast is ready!" She sat up and walked beside him. Norman gave her a smile, "hey, smile." When they entered, y/n's eyes widened at the site of Conny, happily giggling with the others.
Don held her tightly and she cuddled him. "Isn't it great!" Yelled Emma. "I may be thinking selfish right now but aren't we all, Conny doesn't have to leave! Not yet anyway!" Y/n only slanted her eyes at Isabella, who gave her a closed eye smile and gathered the children together.
"Thank you for the meal!" They all yelled, all except y/n. She simply mutters, "finally. Food." And she ate in silence. 'Lucky Conny. Saved by the bell.' She thought to herself.
