Trust

Mama always said:
"How can I trust you if you lie?"

Well, Mama,
you don't.

I'll steal from you when you're not watching.
I'll do things behind your back.
I'll even lie about whether I've brushed my teeth or not.
All because . .
You've never trusted me.

You never did.
Whether I lied,
whether I told the truth,
you never did.

It's funny
how you blame me for your ignorance.

You always said:
"Why do you lie all the time?"

Well, Mama,
I don't.

I'll tell you I stole from you,
but you'll say I'm lying.
I'll tell you about the things I've done that you never knew about,
but you'll say I'm lying.
I'll even tell you I have brushed my teeth,
but you'll only say I'm lying.

You've never trusted me,
and
I've never trusted you.
