Purple Sweater

The Sweater

It was around eleven in the morning when Daria and Jane, having already finished their personal business for that day, walked peacefully together between streets, gardens and trees on their way back to the Morgendorffer house.

"Really, Daria!" Jane exclaimed- "I very seriously considered to just run out of town, if that would mean escaping from the damn camping adventure!"

"Good idea! We could have hijacked a plane, and then... straight to Libya!"

"Hey... what do you reckon is the secret gift your parents got for Quinn?"

"Not hard to imagine" Daria replied in her emotionless voice, and by that moment they were very close to the big red house already- "Plushies? Fancy makeup? Gumballs? Even more expensive clothing than she already owns?"

"What about a half decent brain?"

Daria and Jane laughed together, and after that they found themselves standing at the Morgendorffer garden at last.

"Well, see ya tomorrow Daria!"

"Sure, so we can travel together to Happiness Forest, and play all night with leprechauns and goblins!"

"Yeah, alright..."

Jane slowly disappeared in the distance on her way to somewhere unknown, Daria sighed and it was then when the family's blue Lexus came and parked right in front of the house...

"Hi mom! Hey dad!"

"Hey kiddo!" Jake replied, and he seemed to be truly happy and cheerful after having enjoyed a great time at the Thanks Everyone event after all- "Let's get inside, shall we?"

"Daria, you should not have disappeared like that" Helen said, as soon as all of them were inside and the door had been closed behind them- "The teachers are worried! You are so antisocial, so snide, everyone says you need more friends!"

"Friends, right..."

"Hey, Daria" Quinn said, now happily bouncing around the otherwise cold, blueish gray interior of the Morgendorffer house- "Say, mom! What's my surprise gift?!"

"That's right, the present! Wait there, Quinn!" Jake replied, and it was then when he hurried to grab a small package, all wrapped in dazzling red paper, from somewhere in the kitchen- "We know you're going to love it, kiddo!"

"I can't wait!"

Daria then decided to just go and get a water glass while the big event happened at last, since she just didn't understand why her parents would dote on Quinn so much, while she was ignored, even when she was the best student to have ever walked the Lawndale High hallways!

Well, it would be over very soon anyway, one way or another...

It was then, when the big moment came at last!

"Thanks dad! Thank you, mom!" Quinn cried out in great excitement, now holding the surprise gift in her hands, and very clearly overcome with great happiness and delight- "Exactly what I wanted! The new Starlight Line Amethyst sweater, the latest tendency in Teen Fashion according to Waif! Wow! Thanks! I love you so much!"

"I see, yet another pearl of the ocean for the little princess..."

"Daria! It's not my fault that you are so unhappy!"

"Unhappiness would be, to be more like you..."

"You need to cheer up, Daria!"

Jake sighed, Helen shrugged, Daria whispered something dark and after all of that Quinn just happily dashed upstairs to her room with her dazzling new purple sweater in her hands...
