It was still exactly the same place, and yet Daria knew that the Morgendorffer House would never be quite the same ever again.
This would be the first night without Quinn in their lives, the first night that the Moon and the stars would shine in the sky without Quinn on the world, the first night with Quinn gone forever, and the happy red house was now all sad, cold and silent without her.
Everything was dark as a tearful Daria walked alone from the main entrance to the living hall, and to the kitchen after that, the dining nook and then the empty fireplace... there was nothing but silence, an eerie solitude that Daria would have to deal with for the following days, since her parents were now facing all the paperwork as they dealt with their grief.
They would probably get everything ready for Quinn's funeral on Tuesday, and her burial would take place the following day...
At least, Daria would have Jane beside her.
The silence continued as Daria climbed the staircase step by step, sure that nothing of this whole nightmare was real, sure that Quinn would come in through the main door any moment, talking about fashion, and boys and her most recent date...
At some point Daria found herself standing at the entrance of Quinn's room, everything was cold and then a soothing voice came from somewhere to her left.
"Daria" Jane said, still sobbing a little as she talked to her friend- "Daria, I'll be at the guest room, if you need me, amiga..."
"Thanks, Jane..."
Jane then retreated, since she knew that Daria would have to deal with grief in her own personal way. Time kept passing, the night was getting really cold, the house felt like it was some other house, somewhere unknown, and then Daria walked into that room.
The soft pink rug, the light yellow walls, the mirrors, Quinn's gumballs machine and the four poster bed that now would be abandoned forever...
"Farewell, little sister" Daria whispered, now sitting on the bed as she looked at the cold starry sky through the window to her right- "I guess you were too happy for this world, and so God told these Angels you believed in, that it was time to take you to Heaven..."
Just the wind, the silent streets outside, the awful absence that Daria could barely deal with...
"Is that real?" Daria continued, sobbing at last as her eyes became a lot more tearful than ever before in her entire life- "Is there life after death? I wish to see you again, somehow, somewhere... Quinn, I should be the one to have died today, not you..."
There was, however, no answer for Daria at all.
Daria then realized that she always was unhappy, when in reality she had everything, she had her little sister... and now, Quinn was gone.
It was then, when Daria at last crashed down in tears.
The End
