He knew that the moment he was captured by Wen Chao, he was in for a rough time. Wen Chao's men held him down as he kicked and punched and hit him. He could feel his weakened body being to break. His body was already in pain from the surgery he just had, and now he was being attacked.

"Wei-Dog, tell me where they are," Wen Chao demanded, "and maybe you can keep that golden core of yours."

Well, jokes on you asshat! He thought. Wei Wuxian then scowled and spat in his face, "fuck you."

Wen Chao growled, "Wen Zhuliu!"

"Baby, take his arm first, I want his arm," Wang Lingjiao shouted and whined and begged.

"Shut up," Wen Chao said and turned to Wei Wuxian, "one last time, where is your brother?!"

"No matter how much you torture me, I will never tell you," Wei Wuxian said, "so go ahead, do your worst. Kill me if you want. When I die, I will turn into a resentful spirit and haunt you for the rest of your pitiful life!"

"Wei-Dog, you can't turn into a resentful spirit, everyone born in a sect or clan goes through a soul calming ceremony at the age of five," Wen Chao said.

"See, here is the thing, I never had one. I was not born in a sect. I lived in the streets until I was maybe seven or eight. By that time, the soul ceremony was never down. So go ahead, do your worst!" Wei Wuxian spat.

Wen Chao became anxious at that moment but quickly hid it. He didn't want to show Wei Wuxian that his words had any impact on him, what so ever. Wang Lingjiao, however, scoffed and moved Wuxian's robes aside. She saw the mark on his chest that he gained from receiving a branding iron for defending a maiden. Wang Lingjiao smirked cunningly as she placed her hot iron on the still healing skin. Wei Wuxian did not flinch. He already dealt with the most pain he faced in his life, only a few days ago, so this hot iron was nothing.

"You know what, Wei-Dog, let's go for a ride," Wen Chao said.

Wei Wuxian was soon taken into the air. He was being held by a couple disciples to keep him from moving. Like Wei Wuxian could anyway, he had so many broken bones, torn ligaments and muscles, and a good amount of nerve damage, he even lacked spiritual energy from the lack of a golden core. Even if he was able to break free, he would plummet to his death as he could no longer fly on a sword on his own.

Wen Chao and his men suddenly came to a stop, "Wei-Dog, do you know where we are?" He asked with a smug grin.

Wei Wuxian's eyes widened as he looked down. Several hundred feet in the air, he looked down at the world below him. He saw what was to be known as the Burial Mounds.

Allegedly an old battlefield, the Burial Mounds is famed as a haven for walking corpses and vengeful ghosts. It resists the Qishan Wen Clan's purification attempts multiple times, until they are forced to close it off. Throughout the mountain, skeletal remains poke up from the soil from the sheer number of bodies buried here. At the top of the mountain is a cave with a mouth fifty feet wide – the Demon-Quelling Cave, or the Demon Slaughtering Cave. Inside the cave is a Blood Pool filled with nothing but pure yin energy.

Wei Wuxian trembled from a chill that ran through his body. He was so high up but he could already feel the cold crisp air coming from the Mounds. It was desolate and lacked everything, including light.

"This is the Burial Mounds, I think this is a perfect place for you," Wen Chao said and shoved him off the sword he was on.

Wei Wuxian fell, in his mind he knew he was going to die. His soul would never escape the confines of the Burial Mounds, and he would never be found. He screamed only for a moment before he stopped and accepted his fate. Expecting a hard and painful impact, he braced himself. He even passed out midway from fear and shock. What surprised him most, was that he woke up and was still alive and breathing.

His body was in so much pain that it hurt to move, it hurt to breathe, it even hurt to blink as his head was pounding, as if he was being hit in the head with a hammer. He had to keep his eyes closed to keep the pain down from his head. He didn't know how long he laid there, as he had passed out again after a few minutes. He soon came too again, but this time, he woke up inside of a cave. He was laying on a pile of hay which wasn't necessarily comfortable but it was better than the hard ground.

Looking outside the cave entrance, he saw black tendrils of resentment trying to find a way in to be near him but something was blocking it. Wei Wuxian had no idea how he ended up in a cave as he knows that he is the only person to potentially be alive in a place like the mounds. He slowly managed to sit up and leaned back against the wall of the cave. Wei Wuxian, for the first time, found it was really okay to cry. He was alone and he had no one to worry about burdening his pain and suffering to. At the moment he was grateful.

He was always someone who was highly alert, so he found that he was very vulnerable when he was crying. He felt he had no need to cry either. He had a life and his cards were dealt. Each card that Wei Wuxian picked would either eventually become a good card or become a good choice at the time but later became his downfall. He knew his siblings were going to worry and look for him but he also knew it was not worth their time. Wei Wuxian was in a place where no one would ever enter and no one has ever left either.

He started to get the impression that his life was okay to end here. He had little hope left for moving forward and he knew that his sworn siblings would forget about him eventually. He knew he would not be missed, so he decided to lay down, and close his eyes. He decided that he would just let death take him as his pain was too much and his heart had become weak.

Tears still fell down from his eyes as he had a small inner turmoil. He knows that there is still a war going on and he could be needed. Despite not having a golden core anymore, he could still have tried to find something to do. His motivation was split, and he did not know how to handle it.
