Days turned into weeks since Dameon started courting me. We did everything together. Every morning, he stood by our gate, a fresh bouquet of roses in his hand, waiting for me so we could go to school together. I had told him repeatedly to stop bringing flowers because I didn't want him to waste his allowance, but he remained persistent.
"Flowers again? I told you, sayang ang allowance mo. Your parents might get mad," I said, crossing my arms and giving him a disapproving look.
"That's why you need to accept them! But if you refuse, I'll just tell my parents you're the one wasting my money," he shot back, a cheeky grin on his face.
I was taken aback by his response. His confidence was impressive!
"Why me? Did I ask you to buy me flowers, Mr. Crazy?" I retorted, my teeth gritting in annoyance.
"No, but you deserve it. That's why I want to give them to you, even if you refuse," he replied, unwavering.
"Fine, I'll accept this one, but please, no more after this. If you insist on giving me flowers again, we'll just donate them at the cemetery. Understood, Mr. Crazy?"
He stared at me, mouth agape.
It's not that I didn't appreciate his gestures; it was just that he brought me flowers every single day. I didn't want him to lose his allowance over it.
To me, courting isn't about gifts or flowers; it's about showing consistent love and commitment. If a suitor has no chance, it's only fair to be honest and not lead them on.
"You're so harsh on me, Miss!" he replied dramatically, pretending to wipe away tears.
"But as far as I remember, you can say no to roses, love-ly Miss," he added, glancing at the bouquet now cradled in my arms.
I moved the flowers closer to my nose, inhaling the fresh fragrance.
"Stop pretending you don't love them! It's been your favorite flower; you never say no to roses, Miss. Just look at yourself! You can't deny it," he teased.
I rolled my eyes playfully. "What time is it? Let's get to school already."
He opened the door for me and helped me get in.
"Seatbelt, Miss," he said, fastening it for me before taking his place in the driver's seat.
I settled in, noticing a photo frame in front of him. It held a picture of me from the night I agreed to let him court me.
"Did you just notice it?" he asked, focusing on the road.
"Why is this here, and how did you get this picture?" I asked, examining my photo.
"After that night, you probably didn't notice I was there, watching you. I caught your genuine smile, so I secretly took a shot. Sorry for snapping a photo without asking," he explained.
"...You always say I'm beautiful, Miss."
His compliment made my cheeks flush. His simple words never failed to make me feel giddy inside.
"Thank you for boosting my confidence. You're quite the handsome one yourself," I replied, gazing at him.
"Always for you and only you, Miss Taniesha!" he declared. I playfully smacked his arm.
"You're such a goof. Focus on driving now, Mr. Crazy," I chided, as we merged onto the highway.
"I'm your personal driver, after all," he said with a smirk.
"Who offered that? I have my own car; I just let my parents drive me," I countered.
"Of course, I don't want to tire my girl. I know how independent you are, Miss, but I'm here for you. Besides, I'm your suitor, and if fate is on my side, I'm also your future," he said, winking before returning his attention to the road.
"You're getting a bit too confident, mister. How do you know I'll say yes?" I raised an eyebrow, watching him closely.
Suddenly, he slammed the brakes, causing me to gasp.
"Please, Miss, I'm driving. Don't say that! We might crash because of you," he exclaimed, feigning exasperation.
"How is that my fault? You're the one driving recklessly!" I shot back, raising an eyebrow.
"Because of what you just said! Please don't spring negative things on me; I might lose control, and we could get into an accident," he replied, serious but still focused on driving.
"Okay, okay! You're such an overreactor, Mr. Crazy," I teased, rolling my eyes again. His laughter only irritated me more, so I turned to look out the window, trying to ignore him.
Minutes passed in silence until he broke it.
"We're here, Miss," he said, pulling up to the school parking lot and opening the door for me.
Before I could step out, he handed me a paper bag.
"I hope you like the lunch I prepared for you. Sorry I couldn't-" He was cut off by my knowing smile.
"Don't worry about it. Didn't I tell you our studies come first? Now go on, I'll see you later," I said, smiling back.
"Thanks, Miss! See you later," he said, playfully kissing my hand.
"Mr. Crazy!" I laughed, shaking my head as we parted ways.
I left the flowers he gave me in the car since we would be heading home together later.
The first and second periods went by quickly, but we had a pile of paper works to tackle.
Dameon DM'd me earlier to check in since he was done with his tasks.
"Hey, you okay? You look stressed, Miss," he messaged.
"There are just things I need to finish," I sighed.
"I can help you," he offered.
"Don't. We're in the same course, so you have plenty to do, too," I declined.
"You're right, but how about we do it together?" he suggested.
"Okay, but where are we going to stay?" I asked, curious.
"To our favorite coffee shop. It looks like it's about to rain, and that would be nice," he replied, glancing out the window.
It would be relaxing to do our work together while listening to the rain fall on the ground.
