"Hi love, I bought you your favorite coffee," Dameon said as he placed the cup on the table before sitting across from me.
I stopped typing on my laptop and lazily looked up at him. "Lumabas ka na? You could have just told me so we could go together to the café... sakto umuulan pa naman," I replied, closing my laptop and stowing away my papers.
"You were too serious to disturb on your papers earlier. Sorry, love," he pouted, his expression making it hard for me to stay annoyed.
"But are you already done with your papers?" I asked, taking a bite of my favorite tuna sandwich.
"Yes, miss," he said, showing me his completed work. I nodded in approval.
"Thank you for this. Later, I'll be the one to treat you," I said, trying to take the weight of the gesture off his shoulders.
"Love, I told you, you don't need to treat me all the time—"
I shook my head, cutting him off. "We’ve been together for two months now. I told you we should always give and take. Hindi palaging ikaw; hindi kita sinagot para maging taga-libre ko. Besides, I have my own money too."
"I know, but you should try what I did so you can earn your own. It’ll also benefit your family's company, love. I don’t want you to feel belittled, but please understand."
Dameon sighed. "I will, love. Damn, I wonder how I would survive without you by my side. I'm so lucky to have you, my Miss." He held my hand tightly, grounding me in that moment.
"So, are we still on for the amusement park later? But it's on me—" I started, but he interrupted.
"No, love. Let’s just bond as the two of us. This is our date and a reward for our hard work this week. It’s been draining."
"Besides, it’s also our second monthsary. Let’s celebrate here unless you have other plans?" I asked.
"I don’t have any plans yet, but since you already made one, let’s go to the amusement park." A smile spread across my face at his agreement.
"Wait, I’ll go to the restroom first," I said, giggling when he kissed my forehead. Just as he was about to walk away, I stopped him.
"Hmmm?" he looked back at me, curious.
"I just need to borrow your ballpen; naubos na yung akin," I said as he nodded and gestured to his bag.
"Go, love. It’s inside my bag. I really need to go." He rushed towards the nearest restroom.
I opened his bag, and for the first time, I noticed how organized he was. Everything was neatly arranged, including his papers. As I rummaged through it, something caught my eye—a keychain with a picture showing only the back view of a girl. The name read “Talene,” and on the other side, it said, “An inspiration to strive more and where my heart belongs forever.”
Wow! That was my only reaction. Thankfully, he wasn’t back yet, so I quickly fixed my bag and ran out of the school. I intended to go home but found myself at the amusement park we were supposed to visit together.
I stood in line for the Vikings ride when my phone rang. Looking at the screen, I saw it was Dameon. Deciding to turn it off, I continued to follow the line.
I rode ride after ride, losing track of time until I realized it was already seven in the evening. I opened my phone again and texted him.
Happy monthsary to our relationship, full of unrevealed secrets and lies haha.
After sending it, I took a cab home. Minutes later, I froze when I saw Dameon's car parked outside our gate.
Before I could step out, a large hand stopped me. It was Dameon, who quickly paid the taxi driver before turning back to me, concern etched on his face. "Masyadong masakit, kaya please don't hold me," I felt the tension in his grip as he released me.
"Why did you leave me earlier? And what was that text about?" he asked, firing questions in quick succession.
"So now you're acting clueless, huh?" I shot back, frustration bubbling inside me.
"What are you talking about, miss?" he replied, still pretending to be innocent.
I couldn’t help but laugh, but my heart raced with a deeper worry. "Do you seriously love me? Because if you don’t, we should end this."
He cupped my face, wiping away tears I hadn’t realized were falling. "Of course, I really do. Where is that coming from?" he asked, his eyes searching mine for answers.
"You still care for her," I stated bluntly, feeling a painful twist in my chest. "You wanted this relationship, but it seems like you still have feelings for Talene."
Dameon shook his head fiercely. "No! Mahal na mahal kita, Miss. If you only knew. You’re the only one for me."
I took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm inside me. "Then why didn’t you tell me that before? You always change the subject or ignore my questions."
"Maybe before, I wasn’t ready to talk about it. But right now, I want to be open. I don’t want you to feel hurt or overthink anything. Talk to me, my miss. I want to explain everything rather than let you feel bad."
His sincerity began to heal the pain inside me.
"Please, Miss, communicate with me always. I don’t want this to end. Trust me, and I will do the same."
His words wrapped around my heart like a warm blanket, and I knew we could overcome this together.
