Mom said he's going to stay close, so Carl gives it a try, but curiosity gets the better of him. They're in a car graveyard, with a bunch of cool forgotten stuff. How is he not supposed to check every car he finds until they're forced to leave? So Carl begins to explore, quickly forgetting about his mother's warning.

Lori was going to be mad later, but Carl doesn't care, he's only interested in the cool stuff he was finding. He had a bag with some clothes that he liked, a couple of weapons that he found (he would give to Daryl and ask him to say that he found the guns), various comics and he don't how to worry about food, first because he didn't find anything and second because the others already took care of it.

When Carl arrives at a very nice red car, he gets in it and begins going through the bags on the back seat. Well, he found more clothes of his size and comics. His eyes light up to see a bag withmany comics and he immediately puts them all away, as he does so, he drops a brown notebook with many superhero or music band stickers on the ground.

Carl picks up the notebook and opens it to the first page.

Ron Anderson's Diary. Do not touch.

Carl looks around, as if this Ron guy is near him and will cut off his head for touching his journal. He wasn't here, so Carl has no problem reading on.

He'll probably never meet this guy or he's already dead.

Carl finds various facts about this Ron, like he's fourteen years old, two years older than him, good. He lived in Virginia and in his family there were a total of four people.

He quickly turns the page and finds a letters that is somewhat careless, but beautiful. At least more than his, it was.

2008, September 3.

"I read on the internet that writing how you feel can make you feel better, so I'm going to give it a try. Well, yesterday was my birthday and it was a disaster. I don't have any friends, so it was just my parents, my brother, my aunts, uncles and cousins. Daddy got drunk and ended up punching Uncle Johnny. Then when everyone left, he punched me, said if we hadn't had that silly party (it wasn't even considered a party) he wouldn't be so mad and grumpy as I was at the time. So I took a birthday beating because mom thought it would be a good idea to invite the whole family over for my birthday. It wasn't mom's fault, it never is, I still liked my birthday to a certain extent ..."

Carl can't help but feel bad reading only the first page. If that was the first one, what were the others like?

Before reading further, Carl zips up his bag and runs out of the car with more of the stuff he got from that car, stuff that probably belonged to Ron and his brother, but they weren't going to use any of it anymore. He returns to his mother and tells her that he will be reading some comics that he found in Dale's caravan.

Carl throws his bag on the table and sits down quickly, pulling out his notebook to continue reading.

Carl regrets it as soon as it starts.

He counted the pages that were written, there were a total of two hundred and Carl knows that it will take him a long time to read everything, he just hopes he doesn't cry.

He was wrong again. He cry... He cry too much. Ron's dad was such a mean jerk, why would he hurt his family so much? Carl has only heard about domestic violence on television or his father talking to his mother, but in reality he never cared much about it because his parents loved him and would never hurt him. Actually for a long time he had thought it was a lie, why would you go and hurt your own wife and children? Ron's father was an alcoholic man who would lose control at the slightest and foolish thing. Carl hopes he will never meet this man, he scared him and he doesn't even want to imagine how bad Ron, his brother and mother have had all these years.

Carl can't even read half of the notebook, his tears blurring his vision and his chest aching from reading all the horrible things Ron's dad did to him and his family. So Carl turns to the last page.

2010, August 9.

"In the news there have been videos of people eating others and on the internet there are many videos too. I made a joke saying that they looked like zombies, although no one laughed, not even me."

2010, August 13.

"I'm scared. They told us to evacuate the city. Mom said to stay home and block doors and windows, but Dad said was silly, that we'd be in more danger and we're packing some things to go. Sam hasn't stopped crying because he's scared and doesn't want to leave. I feel the same way, but I'm strong for him and I promised him that everything would be fine. I hope to keep my promise... Actually, I hope my father gets eaten by one of those things, is that? make me bad?"

Carl shakes his head, knowing that Ron couldn't see him, and wipes away his tears when he hear someone enter the caravan.

"Hey, why are you crying?" Glenn sits across from him and messes up his hair.

"It's just that I found a diary and there are many ugly and sad things written here." Carl sobs and closes the journal.

Glenn smiles understandingly and sighs.

"Well, there's a lot of horrible things going on right now... And it's always good to cry about something; it gives you a lot of relief. I was crying for quite a while when I got trapped in the pizzeria where I was working when this started. Maybe the person who wrote that diary is still alive somewhere. Don't be discouraged. He may even be having a better time than before or than us."

Carl smiles and decides to accept Glenn's words. Maybe, somewhere, near or far, Ron was able to get rid of his stupid father and he was safe with his mother and brother somewhere, alive.

Or maybe they weren't, but Carl decides to keep the good story and saves the journal, hoping one day to return it to his owner along with all the notes he'll write when he finds a pencil.

---

I can imagine the look on Ron's face when some weird boy, very cute, is giving him back his diary and tells him that he's going to protect him from his asshole father.

Carl will probably start to fall for Ron at some point during his endless reading.
