First she packed three portions for other side and added more water to this stew.
She opened window and looked down.
Luckily the boys were not far, playing with group of children in muddy and dirty streets and she thought of old England where people threw their droppings there and almost cursed their stupidity.
Luckily she will leave the city soon.
Street was filled with scent of bread and cooking and she saw on corner literally a bakery and her mother-in-law slowly walking back with straw bag on her shoulder.
One hand held her skirt so she wouldn't get even dirtier as she was and other hand was holding walls so she wouldn't slip.
Her eyes became serious. This is too dangerous.
She looked down and yelled. "Go help grandma. Quickly."
They children stopped and her sons saw her face trough the window and saw her motioning down the street.
They glanced that way and indeed, their grandma was barely walking trough the mud while cursing stupid idiots that didn't clean the road.
They rushed to hold her and she gratefully smiled and then looked at the thin head looking down to her. "Get inside. You still need to recuperate."
"I will after I see you safely entering house. What is going on with street? Why is it so muddy?" She asked loudly and glanced across at the woman that was so large she could barely poke her shoulder tough narrow window.
"The city promised to clean streets two months ago, but its indeed getting crazier. Two days ago I almost sprained my hip. You are right. If this continues someone might get hurt. Including our husbands. If they can't work, how will be survive?"
Gina nodded and more people started commenting and getting angry.
They actually had stone street that couldn't be even seen from all the nasty mud and dirt that gathered lately.
Men were yelled at by their wives and mother's for being lazy and were pushed out to gather mud and being it to one of those empty spaces to throw away.
Suddenly someone even found carts and by the time food was done, whole street was clean up, making Gina roll her big eyes.
Did she had to say it or did they loose their eyes?
At least the street was somewhat cleaner now and she can rest her mind that her mother-in-law won't break her bones anytime soon.
The house they lived in had upper and lower floors. In their case lower floors were worse as they were directly next to the mess, crowd and smell.
Luckily upper floor had only two dozen steps and she already planned telling her mother-in-law to stay in lower floor when she heard her talking in the hallway.
"Luckily the tenant in lower floor will leave so I can rest my old bones downstairs. The two rooms up will be shared by you uncle. One room will be for him and his wife and other for your cousins. They are already grown up."
Her lips twitched.
