"Finished" I said. "But you still have to eat, you didn't have dinner yesterday" mother said with a worried tone. "No, ehm.. I'm fine" I said and ran up the stairs to my room. "What are you doing!?" Mark yelled to me, but I pretended not to hear. When I came in my room, I got a pencil and a piece of paper out of a drawer, sat on my bed and started to write. I had a plan to find father. I folded the paper and put it in my pocket. I went downstairs again and mother asked: "what were you doing?" "Nothing, only checking if I still had all my things in my room" I lied. "That is not a good excuse Carl, doesn't matter, I don't want to know anymore" she said. I put my hands behind my back and started moving my body from one side to the other. (That is what I usually do when I'm shy.) "can I go to get some food to the market, if it isn't damaged?" I asked mother. "I think it will be dangerous, so no" she said. "But please! There is no more food left!" "Yes there is!" Shelly yelled. "Be quiet!!" I yelled back. "Don't talk like this to your sister!" Mother was becoming to get very mad, but I didn't care, I needed to find father. "I need to get food!" "No! You won't! It's dangerous! Think if the earthquake restarts, what are you going to do!? Die in the street!?" Mother was furious. "But mother! I need to get food! We will all starve! And-" "NO! You won't go!" "I will!" "Okay, then go if you really want to risk your life!" All of a sudden, there was silence. We both didn't say anything for a couple of seconds, and I started to go to the door slowly, with mother staring at me. "Do you really want to do that?" She asked me. "Yes, I have to" "THEN GO! I'm sick to tell you what you need to do or don't need to do! You're big enough now! You know the actions that you are doing and the consequences! Go! Go and risk your life!" I jumped from fear when she said the last word, and opened the door. Shelly wasn't understanding what we were saying, so she just stayed there looking at both of us. Mark could understand perfectly, and he was now hiding under the table. I walked past the opened door, and went outside. I looked once more to mother, she was paralyzed. I closed the door, and she wasn't saying anything. After I was out, I put the piece of paper on the floor in front of the door. I started running, and went in the street. When mother heard my steps running, she rushed to the door and opened it, she started running to the street, and didn't see me anymore. Her eyes were full of tears and anger. She went back to the house, and stepped on the letter I left for her. She picked it up, and read it in her mind,
Dear mother, Mark and Shelly... As soon as she read those words, she went inside the house where Mark and Shelly were. "There is a letter for us! Come" she said to them. They both rushed to mother and listened carefully:
Dear mother, Mark and Shelly,
I had got an idea to help father, when I told you that I was going to get some food to the market, it wasn't real, I only went out to search for father. I won't tell you where I am because I don't want you to follow me, in case the earthquake restarts. I promise I'm going to find father and bring it here.
I'm sorry I lied to you, but I had no choice.
From your son,

Carl.

Mother dropped to the floor full of tears, "Carl, He did this to help father, and he also let me shout at him! I couldn't believe that he was risking his life to go to the market! There was still food left! He didn't do it for that, he did it to help father!" Mark was standing still, he had widen his eyes. He whispered something to Shelly when mother wasn't looking. "I'm going to help Carl" Shelly had a confused expression. "I don't understand anything" she whispered back to him.
