SEPTMEBER 1ST 1978
The whistle to the red and gold locomotive blew releasing a puff of smoke in it wake, the final call for the train made the crowd on the platform beside it become a frenzy. Student trying to haul their heavy trunks up onto the train while parent chased after them with something they had missed. The world wind of chaos that was involved with returning to school was something that Young Lyra disliked greatly. It meant that her whole family was on display for the world, and now what she was 16 it meant that she was out for the world. She stood stiffly beside her brooding father as they watched her mother fuss over the prefect badge on her young brother emerald robes." these bloody mudblood contraptions" she yelled. Lyra grimaced slightly at the volume of her mother and her shrills. She to was dressed in her emerald robes ready for the journey but she wasnt the favourite, she wasnt a son that they had hoped for, she was the daughter, the pawn in their game of connections and purity. Her black wavy hair was tied up with a green ribbon matching the colour of her tie. Lyra was nothing if not coordinated .she had to be, her outfits where planned and thought through religiously by herself but also her mother.
"Walburga it is time for the children to depart" her father in all his glory bellowed for half the platform to hear. He snapped his pocket watched close and placed it back into his chest pocket before placing his hat back on. The fellow black haired man was joined shortly by his wife and son.
On the outside they where the epitome of perfect. Flawless features, smart, well-respected ,but people could only see the cold hard shells of the family. The true nightmare that was their family was hidden behind the navy door of 12 Grinwald place."Be good, dont get into detentions "their mother lectured to the two ravenettes .A curt nod followed before the adults swiftly departed.
The two siblings stood alone, finally for the first time since the start of summer they werent being watched like a hawk .Lyra thought she was going to cry with happiness as she watched the rigid backs of her parents glide through the crowd .She glanced up at her brother. he was tall, taller than her and he was a year younger than her. She remembered being taller and using it to her advantage now she only barely met the shoulders of the lanky teen. Regulus Black turned to his sister ,gave her a quick embrace before scurrying of to his friends. A Goodbye shouted over his shoulder as he to disappeared into the crowd.
And once again Lyra was left by herself. Alone. It was something she was growing increasingly accustomed to. Life as the daughter of the black family was no easy task and Lyra felt the weight building on her shoulders .All around her was happiness and sadness. Parents tearing up at their departing children while their kids excitedly reunited with friends. Lyra stook out in her black robes being surrounded by warm shades of red and deep blue. She was out of place. A pawn on the wrong board waiting to be commanded. She was sixteen and this was the most she had gotten out since the summer before. sighing in slight despair, Lyra levitated her chest behind her and boarded the train. She had no one to look back to, no one to wave goodbye to, no one to miss. Gratefully she found a quiet compartment towards the front of the train. Her trunk dropped lightly in the overhead storage and she placed her wand back inside her robes.
