Chapter 6: A Broken Promise

It had been a couple of minutes since Asher returned after his lunch break and was now giving food to the hamsters. However, his mind was still thinking about Trisha.

"Hey, what's up with you today?" The familiar voice of Ashley asked, walking over to him.

"What makes you think something the matter with me, Ashley?" Asher asked, closing the bag of food.

"For one, you nearly overfilled the hamster's food dish in this cage," Ashley started."Then you hardly said anything since coming to work today."

"I just haven't been myself since, for the last three weeks," Asher replied."I made an awful mistake and broke a promise to someone."

"I'm sure they would forgive you if you explained why you had to break the promise," Ashley said.

"No, she won't forgive, not after what I did," He stated, shaking his head.

"What did you do that was so bad?"

"I broke her heart," He replied, "I promised her in middle school after my ex-best friend Zane hurt her so badly. That I wouldn't ever break her heart, but I did exactly that, and I never saw her as hurt as she was that day I made a mistake, and it hunts me."

"What did you do?"

"I dumped her, and right after a movie date," He replied sadly, looking at the floor.

"I'm sure you had a reason to end the relationship between the two of you," Ashley reasoned.

"She hasn't been the kindest person and has gotten worse lately," He said."She didn't want to hang out with our other friend because of her uniform for her new job. I couldn't stand it and broke my promise not to hurt her."

"Hey, it's okay. You did what you felt was best and shouldn't have forced yourself to continue dating her if you were unhappy."

"I believe it was the right choice at first, but..." He trailed off, looking back at the floor, unable to continue.

"But what?"

Asher sighed before he spoke up again."I was afraid of hurting my flower heart, but I never expected for the regret of dumping her hurt me so badly. It was my decision, after all."

"Asher sounds like you still love her more than anything," Ashley stated."I can't say for sure, but my mom once dumped my dad, and she regretted it for months until getting back together. She realizes that even with his flaws, her heart wants him and only him. Your heart might still be in love with her and could always be if you still can't get over her."

"I never could get back with her, not after breaking her heart like Zane dumping her for a prettier girl, especially after seeing how to hurt she was by me dumping her clearly; our relationship meant more to her than the one with Zane."

"If you end up wanting her back in the future, Asher," Ashley said, placing a hand on his shoulder."Then I'm sure she will forgive you if you show her how sorry you are."

"I don't know, maybe, for now, I better if I don't date for a while, not as long as she's on my mind," He said with a sigh.

"I agree, and maybe you should leave early," Ashley said."I will let the boss know you weren't feeling great and needed it to go home."

"Yeah, I guess that would be best," Asher said, heading to the bag of food to Ashley and starting to leave as she suggested.

Asher was walking out of the pet shop when he heard his cell phone ringing and answer. Not even though he wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone at the moment, but part of him was hoping it was Trisha, a sign she still wanted to be his friend at least.

"Hello," He answered.

"Hey, Rich boy, where are you?" Nikki asked.

"Yeah, we're waiting for you at the lemon. Come on," Catlin said.

"I already told you guys I'm not coming. Now, why don't you bother Jen," He said, getting ready to hang up.

"Come on, dude, it won't be any fun without you; Jen is already being stubborn about coming," Jude said.

"Look, I don't know how you even have my number, but guess Catlin gave it to you," He said."However, just leave me alone. I'm not feeling in the mood for fun, alright?"

He then looked to see Trisha walking t the nail shop with some goth girl that seemed a bit like Nikki and sighed.

"I'm going now; don't bother me again today," He said.

"Hey, Rich boy, I'm not done with you," Nikki muttered, annoyed.

Asher, however, hung up the phone before Nikki could say something else, trying to convince him to come and join them on their little plan.

'I'm going home need to get away from the mall now that Trisha is here hanging out with someone who seems like a new friend of hers.' He thought as he started to make his way to the parking lot where he was parked.

Asher was walking toward the exit of the mall and toward the parking lot where he was parked when he heard two familiar voices call out to him.

"Rich boy!"

"Ash!"

He turned to see Nikki and Catlin heading his way and sighed.

"What do you guys what?" He asked with a sigh.

"You're coming with us, Rich Boy. You didn't think we give up that easily?" Nikki asked, looking into Asher's eyes.

"I already told you no, Nikki," Asher replied.

"Come on, Ash; your coworker said you left early because you won't yourself lately," Catlin said."You need this sick day more than you think."

"Catlin, that's nice and all, but what I need us to be alone," He stated."I get you care for me as my friend, but Nikki and the others don't know why you are trying to get me to join. We hardly know each other."

"Hey Rich boy we might not know you well, but you seem pretty cool, and your coworker right. You do seem off lately," Nikki commented.

"I just haven't been feeling myself after making such a terrible mistake on my date with my flower," He said, holding his face in his hands."I just want to be alone," He sighed as he started to walk off.

"Ash, what happened?" Catlin called out.

"I don't want to talk about it; just go have fun," He replied leaving through the mall door.

Here you have it. The sixth chapter of Rich Boy is completed. Asher is struggling with getting over dumping Trisha. The pain of breaking that promise eating him up inside and couldn't bring him to think about having fun with the gang he sort of bonded it with. The next chapter will possibly be another original plot chapter before following the show's next episode.
