Hopeless Opus - Imagine Dragons
It was morning before I knew it.
Another day in paradise, I thought solemnly. I begrudgingly removed myself from my bed to get ready for school. I passed by my mother who had a scowl on her face as usual. I gathered my things and quickly went to the bus. Suddenly there was a cold chill down my spine. I could feel piercing eyes staring at me. Looking up to see who it was, I couldn't find anyone to match. I slid down my seat, slowly trying to hide myself from the invisible person. There was a sense of flight or fight in my system from it. I'd never had that happen to me before. It felt as though I was targeted. Once the bus arrived at the school, I hurriedly went inside to find Ana standing at my locker. I breathed a sigh of relief I didn't know I had. She smiled at me.
"Hello stranger!" she said. I gave her a small smile back.
"Hey..." I responded.
"So, did you do anything interesting last night?" she began. I shrugged.
"Not really," I replied. "I don't do anything fun that much."
She frowned, "What? Well, we will have to change that! You should come over to my place on your birthday on Friday!"
I froze, "What?"
"It will be fun!" she started with a cheerful smile, "My brother will be there as well as some friends!"
I gawked at her. Was she trying to get me in trouble with her brother? "I'm sorry, but I can't do that. My mother will want me home; she doesn't like when I'm somewhere she doesn't know."
She gave me a look, "Oh, is your mom always like that?"
I sighed, "Yeah..."
"Well, you should totally-" she was cut off by a commotion starting to come from behind us. Someone was starting a fight. There were two guys in the hallway yelling at each other. What about? I didn't know. People gathered around them as we watched each guy begin to shove each other. I watched when suddenly a fist was sent to my face and my body was sent flying back into my locker. I could hear a teacher come out of their classroom and began yelling at the boys.
"Ti sto diáolo káneis!?" I heard someone shout. It sounded like a man. The pain in my nose began as I felt the blood start to pour as my eyes closed unwillingly.
My vision was hazy from being hit in the head. There was a sound of faint birds in the distance. Was I literally hearing birds around my head from being hit so hard? I tried to lift myself, but was stopped by an unknown force. My sight began to come back, but I grimaced when the light started to hurt my eyes. My surroundings began to brighten up and I got a better look at where I was. I was greeted with what appeared to be a counsel room. I looked across from me to find a man sitting directly in front of me at what I assumed to be a counsel table. He wore a golden garb that appeared to be almost Roman. Glancing around, I see others wearing their own clothes with different colors. All are unique to them. I sat up in my chair against my own will, not knowing what was happening. I saw the man give me an exasperated look, as though I weren't listening to what he was saying.
"What do you think, sister?" he repeated. I only gave him a startled expression.
"I don't-"
"Margaret, can you hear me?" someone interrupted. My eyes shot open, my heart pounding as I bolted up from where I was. Pain suddenly flooded my head and my hand went to cradle it. "Whoa, slow down, you have a broken nose and a possible concussion."
I opened my eyes to see I was lying in a nurse bed at the school, "What the- Where am I?"
"You're in the nurse's office, honey," someone said next to me. It was the nurse herself, but that didn't explain why I suddenly was here instead of that room.
