Chapter 2: Adjusting to living with a Neko and..Wait, I am getting another one?!

When morning arrived, after last nights fiasco, I began to slowly wake up. Now lying on my back, I had had my eyes closed still, letting myself slowly wake up, today being a day off from work, when I noticed a weight on top of me. A soft sigh left my lips as I had a strong guess on what it was, and when I opened my eyes I was correct. Laying on top of me was Finnick, his head laying on my chest, sleeping soundly. It felt strangely nice, and seeing Finnick was still asleep, I simply laid their hoping he would wake up soon, when I soon felt him rubbing his cheek against my chest, reminding me of what cats do also. AFter a few minutes, with Finnick still asleep, I carefully picked him up, finding him surprisingly light, and set him to the side, soon sitting on the edge of my bed, yawning as I stretched when I heard my phone vibrating. Looking at the cock that sat on my nightstand which said it was eight in the morning. I never get calls this early, and picking my phone up didn't recognize the number. I soon answered, getting up and walking out of the room.

"Hello," I asked as I soon heard a woman's voice on the other side.

"Hello this is Jennifer Dunkin from the neko and others registry from the state, is this Eli Gweneth," they said, as I turned it to speaker phone and checked the number against the government website to confirm, which the number was correct.

"Yes this is him," I replied, entering the kitchen and turning it off speaker phone, "what can I do for you Miss Dunkin?"

"Well I am calling in response to you being registered as a neko owner and wished to inform you on a few things if that is okay."

"Yeah sure that isn't an issue," I replied, a bit surprised but accepting of their help as I got me a glass of juice to start my day.

"Great, umm to start the digital license you were sent is a temporary license, stating you are the rightful owner of the registered Neko and your permanent license is being prepared for you and will be sent when that is ready. Now in terms of what you will need to do, I sent you a pdf going over basic things you will need to know for caring for and making sure your neko is comfortable along with things that are illegal. You will get a physical book with your license so be expecting that when that is sent. Any questions so far sir?"

"Umm not at the moment," I responded, leaning against the kitchen counter as I enjoyed my morning drink.

"Great, now with that said, there is a matter I do wish to discuss with you, being a new register for a neko we offer everyone an opportunity to participate in a program to help further implement Neko's along with other species among what we call demihumans, which I don't think I need to explain why they are considered that," she said, as I nodded taking a sip, "the program will ask you to house some we have in our adoption facility, as long as you are able to house them, and to accommodate you for that we will make sure you are financially supported to meet their needs."

"How much financial aid are we talking about exactly," I asked, taking another drink.

"Well from the average we are seeing about $30,000 a month as a baseline," she said, which when I heard that, almost choking on my drink, coughing a bit as I soon spoke after.

"$30,000?!"

"Yep, that is the baseline and depending on how many you house, that number can fluctuate, now know that you are not required to join the program but we do ask to think it over," she said, as I pondered over the proposition. $30,000 a month to start with in taking care of a variety of demihumans. Thinking over my own finances, and over what it could cost to take care of only one, I had the feeling it would be a huge struggle, though one i could definitely get through, but when your being offered free money, it is hard to resist.
