The next day:
After the events from 2 years ago at Woodsboro, Mason, Sidney, and Randy attend Windsor College trying to get away from and forget everything that happened 2 years ago. After what had happened that night, Mason and Sidney started dating and began a romantic relationship.
It's morning time at Windsor College and in one of the dorm rooms lies Sidney Prescott. She is 19 and a college sophomore. Her phone rings loud waking her up from her nap causing her to turn and reach for the phone.
Sidney: (Answers) Hello? (No answer) Hello?
Caller: Hello, Sidney.
The caller sounds like the same voice that has haunted her 2 years ago back in Woodsboro. She gets up clearly not in the mood for games.
Sidney: (Yawns) Yes?
Caller: What's your favorite scary movie?
Sidney: Who is this?
Caller: You tell me.
Sidney: (Grabs the caller I.D. from nightstand) Cory Gillis, 555-0176.
Cory: (Phone) Oh, shit.
Sidney: Hot flash, Cory. (Cory: Shit) Prank calls are a criminal offense, (grabs her watch from nightstand to check the time) prosecuted under penal code 653-M. (Cory hangs up the phone) Hope you enjoyed the movie.
She puts her phone back as her roommate and friend, Hailee walks back into their dorm.
Hallie: Time to change numbers again?
Sidney: No, it'll die off. It's opening weekend, we'll see how it goes.
Hallie: Okay.
Sidney gets out of bed and grabs the stuff she needs before heading to the bathroom. Hallie turns on the tv.
???: You know, Ron, uh...
Sidney stops what she's doing as she hears a familiar voice. She turns and sees Cotton Weary on T.V. The same man who Sidney had accused of killing her mother 3 years ago. After Gale had published her book about the Woodsboro murders from 2 years ago, she had managed to free Cotton from prison due to him being innocent.
Cotton: To be accused of a crime you didn't commit, particularly one as heinous as murder.
Ron: But how do people treat you now that they know the truth about your innocence?
Cotton: Most people are cool. There's some who still keep a safe distance, which is odd for me, 'cause I've always been sort of a people person.
Ron: But you were wrongly accused! You were fully exonerated.
Cotton: Yeah, well, that and a nickel will get you a cup of coffee. Even that's not true anymore.
Ron: Well, certainly with Gale Weathers' book, and now the movie, it's set the record straight for Cotton Weary.
Cotton: One would think. But, uh, Gale's— Gale's been terrific.
Hallie: (Snaps Sidney out of her thoughts) Hey! Move your ass, okay? You're late. Don't forget about the martini mixer tonight at the Delta Lambda Zetas.
Sidney: I don't think I'm going to be able to make, Hal.
Hallie: What? Come on, don't even try to bag, okay? 'Cause you promised me.
Sidney: (Leaves dorm room) A vague promise at best.
Hallie: Well, nobody's asking you to join, okay? (Follows Sidney) It's a party. Free beer, meet the girls.
