Chapter 15: Compromised

A few days had passed, and just about everyone in the castle had seen Kitsune and Meta walking around. Reactions were positive!

"Has anyone else noticed that Meta Knight seems quite close with that Kitsune girl?" Lady Like asked the rest of her family.

"What do you mean, my dear?" Her husband asked. 

"Earlier today, I was out in the garden. I saw them both walking together, and they seemed quite happy in each other's presence. I don't think I've seen Meta Knight smile like that before!" Lady Like stated, giggling a bit. "It was quite endearing if you ask me."

"I see! Yes, that sounds quite nice. I'm glad to hear Meta Knight has another friend." Sir Ebrum stated.

Tuff huffed, lazily slouching into the couch. "I don't get why it's such a big deal. He has other friends, right? So what's it matter?"

Tiff rolled her eyes. "Well, I think it's great!" She remarked. "He deserves more friends he can actually relate to, and are more mature. Something that can't be said about you, Tuff."

"Hey!" Her brother retorted.

"Behave, children." Lady Like scolded.

"Anyway..." Tiff started. "I'm honestly glad they're just getting along. For someone that was hired to be rival for Meta Knight, they're practically best friends by now!" 

Tuff laughed. "Bet Dedede isn't gonna like that!"

His sister huffed. "Dedede doesn't like anything aside from making others miserable."

"Hey Sword! Hey Blade! I'm back! Sorry I took so long, heh." Tourmaline called as she entered the knights' quarters again.

"'Ello, Tourmaline. We were wonderin' where you were."
"Aye." Were the respective responses from Sword and Blade.

"Is Meta Knight not with you right now?" Sword questioned.

Tourmaline shook her head. "No, he's with Kitsune at the moment. I stayed and chatted with them both a bit before returning here." She explained, reaching up to let her long, pink hair out of its ponytail. 

Her colleagues glanced at each other, seemingly curious. "That's a bit surprising." Sword remarked. 

"Why's that?" The woman asked.

"You an' Meta Knight are practically attached by the hip usually." Blade pointed out, Sword nodding in agreement. 

"Is there a reason you're not with him this time?" The turquoise-clad knight asked.

Tourmaline grinned a little bit. "Wellll~ I have my reasons. But I'll put it this way." She leaned closer to the knights. "I happen to know that my dear brother happens to fancy Kitsune. And I thought I'd be a helpful little sister, and give them some space-"

"Wait, wait, wait- back up. Repeat that?" Sword interjected.

"Meta likes her!" Tourmaline chirped, her voice going a few octaves higher from elation. She covered her mouth, getting a bit sheepish. "Just, ah... don't let Meta know I told you that. Or Nova forbids Dedede and Escargoon." She added.

"We won't." The two knights responded in sync.

"Great!" Tourmaline chirped, flopping back into her chair. "Honestly, I'm happy for Meta. He deserves to be happy, y'know? And I'm glad he -potentially- found someone!" 

Sword chuckled. "I think we all are." He remarked, Blade nodding in agreement.

"Sire! We have a bit of a problem!" Escargoon announced, running through the throne room.
