Chapter 15: Denial

Ayano's POV

I hear sobs of Hanako and Taro Yamada beside me as I stand still at the gym staring blankly at the stage where a little memorial was held for Osana's death. "No words can express the sense of loss we feel as a result of this terrible tragedy." Said by the headmaster finishing his speech. I keep my head low, I can't believe it's already Monday, it feels like I was just talking to Osana yesterday. This is... Devistating. I feel a gentle pull of the fabric of my uniform I look beside me. "Aishi-Senpai.." Hanako mumbles to me, teary eyed. We stood there awkwardly as students were leaving the gym. I break the silence by asking if Hanako needed something, she looks at me in silence. "You were close with Osana-chan right?" I nod in response. "And... You were the one who found her hanging, right?" I nod again. "Do you... Know why she did this?" She asks me gripping my shoulders. I can't tell her Osana was bullied, she'll be too devistated. "I have no idea on why she did this." I say looking away from her, she looks at the ground. "I really loved Osana-chan"

Ayano: Huh?

Hanako: She was like a sister to me, especially when my brother got distant towards me.

Ayano: ah... Um..

Hanako: We're friends right, Ayano-senpai?

She looks at me with tears on her eyes. I pat her. "Ofcourse." I give her a fake sweet smile. She hugs me and started crying. "Let it all out." I pat her back. Taro, you can't even comfort your own sister, I guess you really are pathetic.

*School bell ring*

"Hanako, it's time for class. We better get going." She sniffles. "O..Kay..." I give her a fake smile and we exit out the gym.

I wave goodbye to Hanako as I made my way to the second floor. Right there, I felt a presence beside me. I look at them. "Hello to you too." Megami chuckles. I stay quiet. " *Sigh* you're... Really stressed out about all of this huh?." Megami looks at me with pity. She stopped walking and held my hands to stop me from walking aswell. "What." I stare coldly at her. "Uh, You can take a rest today, okay?"

Ayano: Ah..? But why?

Megami: you'll most likely not be able to concentrate if you're this stressed.

Ayano: but I'll be flooded with paperwork if I take a rest.

Megami: *sigh* you won't be. I'll take care of it.

She smiles warmly at me then held my face with one hand. "You need to rest for now, I can imagine this past week has been hellish for you. Though we might've had our differences in the past, but now we're friends and I care for you okay?." I nod, suddenly, I just find myself smiling. Ah, what's happening to me? "Thank you Miss Saiko." I smile, her cheeks turn bright pink. "A-ah! A-anyhow! We are late for class! We should really be going!" I nod in agreement. "See you, Megami." I say as start to make my way to my classroom. Though Megami just stood there.

I take a seat on my chair. "All right class, since your former substitute got arrested, I will be taking over this week until the school can hire a new teacher." A brown hair woman spoke up while writing her name. I guess she's the new substitute. I hope she's not like Mida or something. For absolutely no reason at all, I look at my left side. My eyes on Osana's seat, empty, sunlight covered the white flower that's sitting in her table. Almost as if the flower was shining. I sigh. I have to stop thinking about Osana, I have to accept that she's dead. Nothing I do will magically make her alive again. I should focus on other things for now. Though Osana might be gone, her memories with me are still here. In my heart. So, I should focus on the positive things in life for now. That's what Amai would say. "Okay class listen up, listen up." I tilt my head up to face the teacher and started listening on our lesson.
