vi. school trip

Turns out Daniel Park took the whole school by storm as he performed on stage with Duke Pyeon. Sadly, Selina didn't get to watch it because of her appointment. Eli told her about everything that happened.

Not long after that, they had a school trip.

Their department's bus was full of girls, and they were hoarding Eli's attention at the back of the class. Selina paid no mind and just sat in an empty seat near the front, and leaned her head to the window.

She had put on her earphones and used the hood of her red jacket, and went to sleep. She didn't realize that they eventually got to a rest area as she kept on sleeping, and Eli coming over to the seat next to hers.

When she woke up, she gasped as she noticed she was leaning on someone taller than her's shoulder.

"Eli! Since when did you get here?!"

Eli chuckled, "Since we got to the rest area. You were still sleeping."

"And you didn't think of waking me up?" She pouted as they got out of the bus.

"You seemed comfortable sleeping... On my shoulder." Eli joked.

"Eli Jang!" She blushed and elbowed him. The two laughed along.

They were checking the student's bags. Selina looked nervous as they checked inside her bags.

"Why do you have a butterfly knife in your bag?" Zeus, the handsome looking instructor asked. Honestly, he gave off wierd tingles.

Eli was looking at her worriedly.

"Um," Selina tried reasoning, "I go to a part time job and go home late at night alone. That knife... It's for protection."

Eli didn't know she felt that way.

"I see. But you will be safe here, so I'm going to confiscate this knife until the end of the trip." Zeus smiled. Selina only gave a reluctant nod.

Eli approached her with worry on his face.

"I didn't know you bring a knife everywhere."

"I've always had it with me."

"If I knew, I would--" Take you home, he was about to say, but he was stopped by Selina's hand on his chest.

"I know. But you don't have to worry, I can handle it." She smiled.

As assuring as that was, Eli still worries.

It was recreation time. They changed to their gym clothes and did some games like pipeline. For the matching game, Selina tried her best to fit in. The girls of her department were scared of her, so she managed to join other departments as a group.

She watched as poor Eli got hoarded when it was three people. He had his arms up to not touch the girls, and Selina could feel that he was troubled.

"Two!" The instructor's voice shouted, and just as Selina was about to pair up with an Architect Department student (I think his name was Vasco?) Her wrist was caught. She turned around curiously.

It was Eli.

"Let's match. You and me equals two, right?" Eli smiled.

"Sure." Selina chuckled, and the two matched for the prompt.

On the other side, Vasco could be seen crying.

The talent show was okay. Selina finally managed to watch Deokhwa perform, and he was so cool! She really wished she watched his performance with Daniel before. It was a shame she missed it.

At the night goes on, Selina sighed as her roommates went to another room to drink. She was all alone, and she was feeling stuffy. She couldn't sleep as she had slept all day earlier.

So she went out of her room to wash her face, only wearing shorts and her jacket.

As she walked, she felt something chilly and heard a click from behind her. Selina quickly turned around to look for it's source to find nothing.

"...Is this place haunted...?" She whispered, and quickly fast walked to the toilet.

She splashed her face with water and sighed. She was still feeling weird from earlier. She walked out of the toilet and gasped as she bumped into someone.

"Selina?" It was Eli. He tried calming her down. "It's me. Why are you so jumpy?"

"Oh, Eli..." Selina calmed down her breathing and touched his shoulder. "Nothing's the matter. You just surprised me, that's all."

"You look like you saw a ghost." He pointed out as they start to walk back.

"I know. I swear this place is haunted." She shuddered. "I've been having a chill ever since we got here. And if something happens I don't have my knife with me to defend myself..."

"Well, I can protect you." Eli offered with a smile. He's strong and he knows it.

"Really? Can you fight ghosts?"

"I don't know, but I can try."

"I would love to see that!" Selina laughed, making him laugh too. He walked her to her room before retiring to his for the night.

Day two was more tiring than day one as they did rafting. Then, there was the candle light thingy about parents. The students cried as they thought about their parents, while Selina was contemplating on blowing the candle light off. She turned to her side to see Eli, and he was not crying just like her. Selina walked to him with a sigh.

"Parent problems?"

Eli nodded with a sad smile.

"Same for me." Selina blew her candle light off. "They've never really been in my life."

Eli was about to do the same when she stopped him.

"Wait! Don't."

"But why?" Eli asked confusedly.

"It's just that, um... Maybe for you, you could think of your loved ones and be grateful... Like Yenna." She whispered the last part, leaning closer to his ear.

"You have a point." Eli smiled, thinking of his daughter. Then he turned to Selina and smiled.

"You consider me as your friend, right?" He asked.

"Of course I do." Selina answered without a doubt.

"Then, you should light your candle too." He tilted his candle to hers, and lit her candle's flame again.

"At least light it up for me. It saddens me to know that you don't have someone you care about. But I'm here for you, Selina." Eli smiled.

Selina's heart warmed. "Thank you, that means a lot."

The two stayed in the corner as they enjoyed the silence of each other, and deep down inside, they just knew that they have at least a little thought of caring for the other.

That night, police came to arrest Zeus. Selina felt her chills gone as they took him away, and found out that actually he was the ones taking pictures of girls (and her too).

She was glad everything was over.
