The forecasted rainy night arrived. Jeongguk observed that it was slightly, unusually colder than the previous rainy nights. Sitting behind the counter of the technically-closed café, he lazily glanced at the clock on the wall.

It was already past 10 p.m., which was the closing time, but Jeongguk hadn't yet closed up the shop as he had gotten distracted by the load of his college assignment. This happened a lot; he couldn't recall anyone ever coming in here past 10 p.m. on weekdays, though.

Jeongguk trailed his tired eyes across the mess on the counter — the stapled printed pages from a textbook he had borrowed from the university's library, a notebook splayed open beside his almost-dead laptop, flashcards with biochemistry terms written on them, a half-eaten donut on a plate, an empty coffee mug.

Deciding that it was time to call it a night, Jeongguk got up abruptly and started stretching, satisfied when he heard the cracking sounds in his back. He walked around the counter to get to the door of the café. As soon as he did, he flipped the 'WELCOME' sign to 'CLOSED'.

Jeongguk was a first-year pharmacy student who was living alone in a small studio room on the floor just above the café he worked the evening shift at. As he was on a scholarship, most of his time was spent on studying; he was determined to not have to apply for a student loan to cover his expensive tuition fee.

Just when he turned around to get back to the counter and clean up the mess, came a few loud knocks on the glass café door which startled the hell out of him.

He turned back around to face the door and then took a few careful steps towards it, squinting his eyes at the two figures standing outside. Their faces were blocked by the sign on the door.

"Kook- It's Jimin! Let us in please!"

A small sigh of relief immediately escaped from Jeongguk's lips when he heard his senior's voice — he wasn't sure that he had enough energy to fight off intruders that night.

"H-hold on, hyung!" Jeongguk rushed over to unlock and open the door.

He cringed at the gush of cold wind that swept right over him when he opened the door, along with a little wetness from the rain.

"Really sorry for barging in the middle of the night like this." Jimin quickly apologised.

Jeongguk took a few steps back to give space for Jimin and the taller guy that came with him. "It's alright, hyung. I was just finishing up."

Jeongguk looked at the guy, who was stoically wiping his forehead to clear away the trickles of rain.

A quiet gasp made its way out of Jeongguk's lips upon seeing blood trailing down the chin from the stranger's bottom lip. There was also a visible scratch on the other's cheek, just above his prominent cheekbone.

"What happened?" Instinctively, Jeongguk turned around and sprinted to the counter to get some tissues. He gave them to the stranger, who muttered a brief "thank you," then took the tissues. The guy then pressed the tissues on the cut on his lower lip to stop the bleeding.

"Something happened." Jimin pulled the door shut behind him, watching Jeongguk's astonished reaction with a sorry look on his rain-kissed face.
