[recap]

Their lips were almost about to touch when, unexpectedly, Taehyung pulled away. Jeongguk blinked, a mixture of confusion and disappointment crossing his features.

"Of course, it means something." Taehyung stated, a soft sincerity in his voice. He looked at Jeongguk with a depth that transcended words, his gaze conveying a myriad of unspoken emotions.

Jeongguk, still processing the sudden proximity and retreat, searched Taehyung's eyes for an explanation. The room was filled with an unspoken tension, the unresolved moment hanging in the air.

"You know it does." Taehyung affirmed, his voice a whisper that resonated with the charged atmosphere. Their eyes locked, a silent understanding passing between them.

The intensity of the moment lingered, the air thick with unspoken desires. In the intimate proximity, Taehyung found himself on the edge of surrender, the magnetic pull urging him to close the distance. But he knew better that this would end up hurting him in the long run.

With a conflicted gaze, Taehyung broke the silence. "I need to..." he began, the words trailing off as he rose from the couch. The distance he put between them spoke volumes – a retreat fueled by the internal struggle to fight off the intense desire for a kiss without denying the genuine meaning behind it. God, he wanted Jeongguk so bad.

"Hyung?" Jeongguk questioned, his voice a soft plea, eyes searching Taehyung's for clarity.

Taehyung, with a small smile as he leaned against a wall, responded, "I might just end up kissing you if we're too close, so stay there."

Jeongguk felt the blush coming up to his cheeks because of Taehyung's words. Something felt hot inside of him. "Gee hyung, have some self control." He teased, attempting to light up the mood and ease the tension.

Taehyung let out an empty chuckle, looking away with his eyebrows slightly furrowing, perhaps in frustration. "Have some mercy on me, Koo." His tone was light.

They were quiet for a few seconds after that, not knowing what else to say or where to look. Taehyung was thinking if he should excuse himself and give some space to Jeongguk, despite not wanting to leave at all.

"Hyung," Jeongguk voiced out and Taehyung looked at him with a soft look in his eyes. "I feel like we keep doing this, like when does this end? The uncertainties and all?"

Taehyung licked his lips, steadying his own head and heart to try to make this conversation as smooth and civilised as possible. "Well.. let's establish the fact that I like like you, Jeongguk, even if you already knew that."

"Y-yeah.." Jeongguk pressed his lips into a thin line, gazing at the window by his bedroom area at the end of the room. "So what you're doing now, well, what you've been doing is to.....?"

Taehyung blinked slowly. "Make you like me too." It sounded so simple.

"I think I already do." Jeongguk said, his nails digging into the couch and before Taehyung could even feel some sort of victory, he continued, "But that's it. You know I just.. can't stand... the.. deeper feelings that go beyond that."
