Camila was exhausted. The little trip she had taken with Connor the previous day had taken up too much of her time, and now she had to catch up on all the work she had fallen behind on. She didn't like bureaucracy very much, and even though she knew it was a fundamental aspect of her job, Camila always hoped she could ignore those boring documents that had to be filled out. Unfortunately, as always she was forced to complete that task without exception. That's why she had to stay in the office well past midnight.

When she got home, she certainly didn't expect to see a giant sleeping on her couch. Shawn was deeply asleep, his head resting on the back of the couch in a position he would surely be regretting the next day. On the kitchen counter was what should have been her dinner, now cold and lonely.

Camila took off her uncomfortable shoes, hung up her coat, and headed to the kitchen. As much as the dish looked appetizing, her stomach begged her not to bite into anything at that time of the night, so she put it in the fridge. She calmly sipped a glass of water, while looking at the imposing shape of the man slumped on her sofa.

She wondered why Shawn was there. She had warned him that she would be back late and that they wouldn't be able to see each other because of that. Shawn must have used the copy of the keys Camila had given him a few weeks before. She wasn't bothered by the fact that he had come in, she was just curious as to why. He certainly couldn't be expecting to end the day rolling around in the sheets. Camila was far too tired for that.

She decided to get ready for bed. She was tempted to take a long bath, but fearing she would fall asleep in the tub she settled for a hot shower to relax her muscles. She brushed her teeth, removed her makeup, and massaged some moisturizer onto her face. She put on the warmest pajamas she owned to keep the November chill from getting into her bones, and tiptoed towards her sleeping lover.

Only now did she notice that he was also wearing some flannel, not a particularly daring outfit to wear if the intention is to seduce a woman. Not that Shawn wasn't incredibly attractive dressed that way.

As usual, she allowed herself a few moments to admire him. She couldn't explain why she enjoyed watching him sleep so much. Probably that angelic face of his, so relaxed, was a rare sight that Camila felt she had to appreciate in the rare moments she was granted.

Then she gently shook him on the shoulder, whispering his name until he woke up. Shawn blinked a couple of times, and his mouth curved into a sleepy smile. «You're back».

Camila nodded. «Come on, let's go to bed». She held out her hand and led him into the bedroom. They both got under the covers, spooning so closely that they looked like two puzzle pieces. Camila felt his warm breath on her neck, a rhythmic puff that lulled her towards the much-longed-for slumber. But before she could finally fall asleep, Shawn's hoarse voice murmured from behind her. «I didn't expect you to come back so late».

«I didn't expect to see you here».

He yawned. «When I said I intended to wake up every day by your side, I wasn't exaggerating».

Camila smiled. Since she had met him again, Shawn had been able to be the biggest jerk to her, yet he was able to come up with phrases that made her heart beat like no one else. «You're a man of your word, then» she joked as she felt her eyelids getting heavier.

«Yes, unlike you». Camila was too tired to start a new argument with him, but she couldn't ignore him when her body was pressed against his. Shawn's voice hadn't changed, he still sounded drowsy and almost bored, but the accusation in his words was not disguised. «Did you take the subway?»

«I took a taxi».

«Alone in the middle of the night».

«Shawn... please don't start».

He held her more tightly. «Camila, I'm just worried. The city is dangerous by night, and you are so delicate and tiny. I don't want anything to happen to you, I don't want to lose you again now that I have found you».

Camila turned on the bed to look at him. She gently stroked his cheek, his stubble barely noticeable under her fingertips. She wanted to say those three words that had never left her mind and heart, but she knew they wouldn't have the effect she desired. So she simply kissed him softly, a lazy and languid kiss. «I promise it won't happen again»

Shawn nodded and held her close. They closed their eyes and drifted off to sleep as the warmth of the blankets cradled them in a deep slumber.
