"Naruto! I know you're in a hurry but quit breaking formation." Sakura called out from the right of her. Ahead of them Naruto kept darting too far ahead, the steely determination over his features had Rei wondering if he was going to be able to keep his head about him in a battle. Rei found their pace a little slow for her liking, but they had three days of travel ahead of them. She was fighting with her own mind, trying to clear away her worries about the fate of her friends.
"I know but-" he definitely sounded like he was struggling to keep himself in line.
"Don't lose your cool, master Jiraiya taught you better then that, didn't he?" Kakashi went straight for the teen's emotions, obviously trying to get him to remember his teachings. That someone would be disappointed in him if he went against them.
"Oh boy," Sakura sighed out Naruto gritting his teeth up ahead of them. Rei caught Kakashi's eye, him giving her a small nod.
"Close the gap," he relented quietly. Rei nodded, increasing her pace she closed the gap between them and Naruto. She was still fighting off that feeling of dread in her chest, there was something she just couldn't shake. Looking up through her frown, she saw the flash of silver ahead of them.
"Naruto look out!" Rei called out to him, a chakra source was heading straight for him. She closed the gap between them in a moment, Naruto's head turning towards her warning at the same moment that she landed on the branch ahead of him. "Wind style, air palm!" The blast of air rippled out like a shield.
The source of chakra that she had senses banked left out of the way, the closer they got to her the more her anger fueled the flames in her chest. Rei reached them before they had a moment to land, grabbing a hold of their forearm she kicked their chest so hard that they slammed into a nearby tree. She flipped down from her branch, pulling out her kunai as she did so. The second she landed they moved to get up, her foot hitting their shoulder with a hard enough force that her foot stung. She grabbed ahold of his wrist with her numb hand, twisting it so that if he moved he would break his wrist she pressed the blade of her kunai into his throat. Despite every other emotion she had about him, despite her regrets and longing for their friendship, she only had anger coursing through her veins at the moment.
"Jesus Rei," Daiki grimaced under her hold. He was on his knees, her blade firm against his neck and his wrist trapped in her hold. "Easy," he lowered his voice to her. An action that made her arm tremble with her anger, crimson leaked out from around the blade. Her eyes flashing to where his other hand had raised, his palm up in innocence. Something was wrong, he wasn't fighting back at all.
"Shut up," she hissed out. She was frowning though, something wasn't right here. He hadn't even started to make the earth below him turn to sand, he didn't have any defenses. She tensed at the feeling of a blade poking into the tip of her neck. From her peripheral she caught sight of a blonde shinobi who was standing there. He wasn't very tall, in comparison with most shinobi, just a couple of inches taller then herself but his resolve was like looking to steel. His katana was pointed at her neck, his head turned in the direction of where the others were running towards them from. His kunai he pulled out was poised for a throw.
"Taiyo," Daiki's tone held all the warning that this world could offer in it, his dark eyes glaring at the blonde.
"You aren't exactly in a position to be speaking right now sunshine." Taiyo, who Rei only now got to realize was completely blind, responded to Daiki. His tone was clipped, but it was his face that held Rei's gaze. Deep scars dove from his cheeks, up to where his eyes should have been. His forehead protector positioned over where his eyes would have been, his blonde hair falling in loose waves just over the edge of his headband. He was from sunagakure Rei realized. This didn't make sense to her, Daiki not fighting back, this Taiyo shinobi teasing him, what the hell was going on? Worse yet, Daiki was with someone from Suna....
