Alisha's Point of View:
I paced back and forth outside Mama's hospital room, anxiety gnawing at me as I awaited news. My heart raced with questions. How did he just faint? Did he receive some shocking news that we didn't know about?

"Alisha." Aaliyah's voice broke through my thoughts. I turned to see her approaching, her expression a mixture of concern and determination. I hastily wiped my tears away, attempting to compose myself.

"How is he?" Aaliyah asked, her voice softening as she studied my face.

"He's sleeping," I replied, trying to sound brave despite the worry tightening in my chest.

"Did the doctors say anything?" Aaliyah pressed.

"Not yet," I replied with my voice laced with frustration.

"Oh, here," Aaliyah said, extending a small box toward me.

"If it's food, I don't want it," I snapped, the bitterness escaping before I could rein it in.

"Not even samosas?" Aaliyah asked, a hint of laughter escaping her lips. I glanced at her, and against my will, I snatched the box, a slight giggle escaping me.

"Congrats," I said, shoving a whole samosa into my mouth, savoring the warmth and spice.

"For what?" Aaliyah asked, her brow furrowing in confusion.

"The team," I replied, chewing rapidly, feeling a bittersweet mix of pride and jealousy.

"Excuse me?" The doctor's voice interrupted us as he stepped into the corridor.

"Yes?" Aaliyah replied, turning her attention to him.

"Are you two Alisha and Aaliyah?" he asked, a serious tone in his voice.

"Yes, why?" I replied, my heart racing again.

"He wants to see you both," he said, motioning for us to follow him into the room. As we entered, I saw Shahrukh Mama lying on the bed, his eyes filled with a mixture of guilt and regret.

"How did you faint?" Aaliyah demanded, her voice edged with concern.

"I was on the phone with your PE teacher," he replied, his voice weak.

"How the hell did our PE teacher make you faint?" I asked incredulously, my anger boiling over.

"Because..." Shahrukh Mama trailed off, looking down at his hands.

"Because what?" Aaliyah pressed, stepping closer.

"Because she said that Alisha didn't make it to the hockey team," Shahrukh Mama confessed, and my heart plummeted as I dropped the box of samosas, the sound echoing painfully in the sterile room.

Fury surged through me. I couldn't take it anymore. "Why? Why do I never get the good luck? Why do I always have to fail? I failed myself, and now I've failed everyone!" I yelled, unable to contain my frustration.

Aaliyah's Point of View:
What? How did Alisha not make it in? She was awesome at hockey. There must be another reason why he fainted and I walked over to the bed next to Shahrukh Mama.

"Mama tell the truth." I said.

"W..What truth?" Shahrukh Mama asked.

"It's not just hockey, is it?" I asked.

"W..what?" Shahrukh Mama asked as he stuttered.

"See, you're struggling with your words. Tell me." I said.

"If I tell you, you won't tell Alisha?" Shahrukh Mama asked.

"It depends." I replied.

"Her parents are planning to send her back to New York when she's 18.. And.." Shahrukh Mama replied struggling.
