𝐒𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤
A few days had passed since Friday night.
Not enough for anything to really change, but enough for the memory of that night to become something I had started trying not to think about. Which, naturally, only made me think about it more.
I sat beside Brielle in the classroom, my quill resting loosely between my fingers as I stared down at the parchment in front of me.
Mcgonagall had been talking for the better part of twenty minutes, but I had barely managed to keep track of what she was saying.
Outside, the sky was a dull grey, clouds hanging low over the castle grounds and making the windows look darker than usual. The occasional drop of rain tapped against the glass, quiet enough that it almost disappeared beneath the professor's voice.
Brielle leaned slightly closer to me. "You're not listening."
I glanced at her. "Neither are you."
She gave me a small smile. "Fair."
I looked back at my parchment, pretending to write something down. My eyes wandered across the classroom instead, almost without me noticing. There was an empty seat a few rows away.
Where he usually sat.
I hadn't seen much of him since Friday. A glimpse here and there in the corridors, usually surrounded by people, but never long enough for an actual conversation.
He had also missed a few meals, and whenever I happened to look for him in the common room, his usual spot was empty.
I frowned slightly, growing tired of how much it had been bothering me.
"Have you seen Mattheo?" I asked quietly.
Brielle looked at me for a second before turning her attention toward the empty seat. "Not really."
"Hm." I hummed out quietly, already going back to staring at my paper.
"Why?"
I shrugged, keeping my eyes on my parchment. "Just wondering."
