“Tsunade-sama you called for me?”. Sakura asked stepping inside the open roof, where the blonde-haired lady was overlooking the village, the wind swaying her bind hair.
“I do”. She replied, still not taking her eyes off the panorama and silently waiting for Sakura to stand beside her.
Once Sakura was standing beside her, looking like her mini version with long pink hair, she continued, “It’s about Sasuke”.
That unnerved pinkette, her heart beating too fast, “What about him?”. She tried not to sound inquisitive but who is she kidding, just because she has never told Tsunade about her love for Sasuke doesn't mean she isn't aware of it. That's also the main reason wherever there's something related to him, Tsunade keeps her informed.
“I saw his medical reports and he's been doing good for the past month. He has gained weight and regained his previous health according to his age if not more because he's not in constant battles or mental stress. His body is healthier than it has ever been and it's been stable”.
An involuntary smile spread across Sakura's face, she felt pride rise in her heart and genuine contentment for Sasuke's development. However, she felt like there was more to this talk than just Sasuke's recent reports, which made her nervous. Her gut feeling has never proved wrong.
“Since every report about Sasuke is to be regulated among the five Kages, I and Kakashi proposed that Sasuke should be put under a physical apprenticeship regimen to sharpen his rusty skill since his body has healed. Everyone agreed on that idea except the Raikage... ” Tsunade sighed but she doesn't blame him, had Sasuke attempted to kill her brother she wouldn't be as pleased either.
“But he got outvoted and considering Sasuke's cooperating behavior, he got the leeway. So, Sasuke will be transferred from the hospital to a house in the village with appropriate security and will be under Kakashi's wing as chosen by the Kages. After all, we can't send him out in the world half-fit”.
Sakura furrowed her brows, muddled about the last statement, “What do you mean to send him out in the world?”.
Tsunade finally looks at Sakura a sad look in her eyes speaking volumes and she could feel her hands shake on her medical broad, “He’ll leave Sakura”. Again and again
“Why”. A barely audible whisper left her pale lips.
“Sasuke has chosen this road for redemption. He sought Kakashi out requesting to leave the village when the time is right, to right the wrongs, and to find atonement. After all, Kakashi will be the homage when the time comes for him to leave”.
A bitter taste ripples in Sakura's mouth hating to be in a place where he won't be but she understands, what he needs, and until he gets that someone like him won't be able to move on or forgive himself. Plus she knows, she has never been enough to make him stay.
It will never be enough but this time she doesn't feel worried, because he isn't leaving for revenge. He's leaving for reprieve.
“Sokka, Tsunade-sama”. She replied now looking at the village imagining it without him and suddenly it felt too cold, again.
Tsunade lays a comforting arm over Sakura's shoulder, squeezing it gently, “Not every story has the same ending every time. It changes”. He will return, Sakura knows what she is trying to say but Kami, it hurts.
She has given every piece of herself to him and now only drizzles are left, will ever return those pieces?
But she's not that afraid this time
“I'll give you some time and sort a few errands till then”.
“Arigato”. Tsunade smiled knowingly, she knows Sakura will pull herself together. She's strong, some people might not notice or appreciate it but mental strength is also a power, not many possess.
She stood there for a long time, trying the cast the gray shadow away but it was difficult. After being by his side for many weeks only to be away from him again, feels like a farce.
She thinks she can't do it but deep in her heart, she knows she will and she can because it's her love for Sasuke and it doesn't vanish so quickly. She wishes it could but we do not choose who we love. She never chose to love him but did and continues to do so.
The sound of footsteps behind her wakes her mind up.
“Tsuna—”
“Sakura”.
She froze at his voice whipping so quickly that her long hair flowed in the hair mesmerizing Sasuke. There he was standing without any bandages except on his eye which has the rinnegan. Yes, he has gotten healthy.
“What are you doing here?”. She asked genuinely.
“I was looking for something and there were no nurses around”. He says awkwardly.
“How come there was no one around? There's always someone aro—”.
“It wasn't you”.
Sakura's mouth parted in surprise something stupid was pounding in her chest as she stares at him, frozen and flushed.
It wasn't me
“Oh”. She gulps.
Sasuke wanted to hit himself in the head, a conversation isn't his thing and it always upsets people around him not that he cared anyways but maybe he upset her. To change the subject he asks her, “What were you doing here alone?”.
“Just getting some fresh air, it can be suffocating around in the hospital”. Sasuke nodded in understanding even though he's not a doctor unlike her, but every difficult profession has that effect on the performer, “But no worries let's go back and get you what you need”. She started moving but he shakes his head.
“I have been inside my room all day, some air is nice”. He spoke closing the distance between them and standing beside her, gazing at the village to avoid her eyes.
“Okay”. She shrugged her shoulders, looking away from him to the scenery now looking at it alongside the person with whom she was imagining this village without.
How ironic.
The wind softly caressed the troubled souls as Sasuke enjoyed the silence and her company somehow catching the distress in her body language but brushing it off thinking it was tension from her work as she said.
Oh, how much she wished it was just a simple crush and not love, had it been a crush she would have gotten over it the moment things with Sasuke got complicated in the Forest of Death. But she stayed, she loved him when he was fighting the curse within his body. She loved him enough to leave the village with him. She loved him through his revenge to the extent she thought killing him was the only way she could free him from this wretched path but she couldn't because she loved him. She loved him through his hatred and now redemption, but oh, how much she wishes it was just a fleeting fixation forgotten in memories.
But then she wouldn't know what it is like to love him and feel the caress of his hand against her as they overlook something they can't call home without each other.
━━━𑁍━━━
One thing which always annoyed me was how haters would say she only liked him because of his handsome features, but handsome features isn't enough to go through this much pain for someone you don't love truly.
Hope you enjoyed this chapter.
