Yuji Itadori, Sukuna's vessel and first year at Jujutsu High, had terrible nightmares. None that he ever really remembered, but he was sure that Sukuna was messing with his subconscious while he slept most nights. As he woke up, he felt the anxiety and dread from the dream still lingering in the back of his mind, but couldn't grasp what it was that had made him feel this way.
"Finally," Came Megumi's voice nearby. Itadori rubbed the palms of his hands into his eyes, trying to rub away the last of the nightmare.
"Whazzat?" Itadori asked sleepily, finally blinking his eyes open. He had apparently been tossing and turning in his sleep as this was definitely not the position he had fallen asleep in. Itadori's legs were swung haphazardly over Megumi's stomach and thighs and his pillow and the shared blanket were tossed onto the floor. The dark-haired first year scooped Itadori's legs off of him and carefully slid off of the mattress, padding over to the kitchen.
"Nobara went out to grab us food not too long ago," Megumi explained, gesturing to the opened bedroom door. Itadori pulled himself up and stretched his arms over his head, hearing a few satisfying cracks.
"Why didn't you wake me up?" Itadori asked, grabbing the pillow and blanket off of the dirty floor.
"I'm going to be going around the city today to look for the finger and any other curses that may be in the area. Something is wrong with this place," Megumi said, completely ignoring Itadori's question. He pointed at itadori, knowing exactly what the other first year was going to ask, "No, you and Kugisaki will not be coming with me. She needs to stay here in case the girl calls for a babysitter. That girl is important, but she has seen your dumb face and I can't risk you getting caught up in another brawl with the mother,"
"It wasn't really a brawl," Itadori grumbled, getting out of the mattress and folding the couch back up.
"Either way, it's safer for you to stay here," Megumi responded with a dismissive wave of his hand. He looked at the coffee machine on the counter, considering whether or not to mess with it. The small contraption looked moldy at best and a fire hazard at worst. He knew that he should have told Nobara to pick him up coffee while she was out, but he had sworn the coffee machine had looked semi-decent from the mattress. This is what he gets for being a decent person and not waking up his friend.
Within moments, Nobara burst through the door with a large food bag in the crook of her elbow and a tray of coffees in her hand. Megumi swore that in that moment he could have kissed her. The three first years settled together on the couch as Nobara distributed their breakfast sandwiches and coffee.
"What was the name of the girl that Sukuna is obsessed with again? I had a call while I was out," Nobara asked around bites of her food.
"He said Anya I think," Itadori said, leaning back against the couch. He wondered what he could do to pass the time with Nobara while Megumi was out. It wasn't like the television here worked at all, he had already tried that last night. Maybe he could convince Nobara to go back out to grab some playing cards or something.
There were a few moments of uncomfortable silence as each first-year wondered what the hell the King of Curses wanted with a normal little girl. Itadori understood that it was their only lead towards the finger and wished he could do something else. Both Megumi and Nobar were doing things to help with the mission and what was he supposed to do? Stay here while they both potentially put themselves in harm's way?
Megumi summoned his black Divine Dog, patting its head when it fully emerged from the shadow. It sat contently, staring straight into Itadori's eyes as if it knew what he was planning.
