KEROSENE | JORDAN
9:11 AM
MEMPHIS, TN.

"me? i'm pregnant? me?" kerosene was at a disbelief. her words choked back in her throat as her eyes welded in tears.

jordan didn't know if she'd go into a fit of rage again or depressive episode. all he did was hold her tightly in his arms, reassuring her that everything was gonna be okay.

"for approximately 2 weeks a fetus has been growing in your uterus, yes. do with this information what you will, but we need to schedule you for your first ultrasound next month"

kerosene rapidly shook her head no, "uh we can't. she— we live in san francisco. we're only here because i play for the Golden State Warriors." jordan answered for her.

he thought it was bed for him to be her voice, so she could collect the information and try her best to calm down.

the doctor shot him a look of realization. "ohh. you're jordan poole, i knew your name was familiar. you're the one that's gonna help them win it all, huh?"

his cheeks turned warm and a smile laid on his face at the lady's compliment. "that's what i'm hoping yeah" he mumbled to himself.

"how did you know?" "i'm from the bay myself. long way from here i know, but my close friend Monet Weston is a midwife at UCSF Medical. I could set up an appointment for you two there instead?"

jordan looked toward kerosene for an answer. "yeah that's alright. it's right across the street from the stadium yeah?" she croaked out.

the doctor nodded her head in response. "it is. very convenient for you 2 huh?"

kerosene wanted to agree, but then realized that she wouldn't be spending anymore time in the Chase Center any time soon.

she wanted to cry all over again. the doctors passed jordan the clipboard in question.

he read the words "Release Form" at the top of the page. "since you are her boyfriend and the father, i presume—" "you're answer is correct." he barked, weirded that she would even assume he wasn't.

"—you're the only one that can sign her out to be released today."

he wrote his signature on the dotted line so fast.

the 2 professionals smiled, "great". she turned to kerosene, "i'll send you the bill and Dr. Weston's information. I hope this new beginning brings you nothing but happiness."

they left the young soon-to-be parents alone in the room as jordan sighed. he heard soft cries coming from under him.

all he could do is comfort and reassure her. he just wished he could take on some of her pain she was experiencing.

"i just lost my fucking job and now i'm finding out i'm pregnant with a fucking baby!? this is too much" the woman uttered into his chest.
