Sophie couldn't remember certain things.

All she remembered was Alden telling her that the Neverseen burned her human family's house down, promising that her human family was safe, her telling everyone about it, everyone's apologizing and promises of that things were okay and would get better, Fitz's arm around her, and just staring at the floor.

And... that was pretty much it.

"Sophie?" a voice whispered softly. It took her a moment to realize it was Fitz. His arm tightened around her waist, reminding her to think. To breath. Sophie quickly took a breath, coughing and hacking when she realized she hadn't been breathing for a few minutes. Or was it hours? Sophie had honestly stopped keeping track of things like time.

Everyone else had left to eat dinner expect Sophie. Fitz had stayed too, not wanting her to be alone.

"You should go eat," Sophie said, thinking that Fitz was probably hungry.

"Only if you eat. Sophie, you've been staring at the floor for literally hours now." Fitz unwrapped his arm from her waist and practically dragged her to her feet. "I'm pretty sure that the floor won't turn to grass, if that's what you've been staring for."

Sophie leaned on him heavily, already feeling slightly hungry at the thought of food. Her head spun and her knees wobbled from the blood rush so she practically had Fitz carry her down the stairs.

In the dinning room, Sophie could feel the many stares and sympathetic whispers. After five bites of food, Sophie felt as though she was gonna hurl.

"Can you please not look and talk about me like I'm about to die?" Sophie grumbled, shoving away her sill full plate of food.

Alden cleared his throat. "My apologies, Sophie. Are you sure you'll be able to sleep tonight?" he asked. "And are you going to eat, dear? You only took a few bites!" Della added.

"Yes and no," Sophie replied. She stood up and walked towards the door.

"I'm going to get some fresh air," Sophie called back over her shoulder.

Sophie wandered around and found an place where it seemed nobody has been for decades. The pond across from Sophie reflected the evening sunlight. She sat down and leaned on a giant tree with the greenest leaves Sophie had ever seen.

Before Sophie had felt too drained, but right now? Right now she could feel the sobs in her throat and she let them take over her body. Tears flowed in thick streams down her cheeks as the horrible sobs shook body.

After a while the sobs stopped, but the tears continued. "Sophie?" The sudden voice started her.

It was Fitz.

"Are you oka- you know what? I'm not even gonna ask that; you'll probably deny you've been crying." He sat down next to her and wrapped his arm around her waist and tucked her hair behind her ears, wiping away her tears.

If Sophie wasn't so numb, she would've blushed. But she could barely move. All she did was lay her heavy head on Fitz's chest, close her eyes, and continue crying.

The best thing about Fitz was that he didn't ask any questions or say anything. He just was there for her, holding her hand and resting his head on her own.

After a while the sun set and Sophie was slipping in and out of consciousness. She felt Fitz pick up her body and take her inside. She felt herself resisting at first, jerking a little and making little protesting noises. But Fitz whispered, "You're tired, Sophie. I'm taking you back inside so you can sleep better, okay?" Sophie was too tired to argue.
