Everyone. Is. Absolutely. Adorable!!!
Sophie and Fitz are a couple (Lihn felt only the tiniest bit of envy and disappointment-but at least it only lasted a few days), Marella and Keefe are finally together (Poor Keefe. The good news is that he bounces back quickly), and Tam FINALLY found someone. Like, Lihn has been waiting FOREVER for her brother to step out of his oh-so-comfortable shadows.
It had been four days since Keefe and Marella had returned to Everglen hand and hand with goofy smiles on their faces. Marella looked a little sleepy though...
Now everyone had someone!
Except...
...what about her and Wylie?
Wylie was cute, confident, and just a generally cool guy.
But Wylie seemed to only see her as a little sister.
But what if Lihn saw him as...more? A crush maybe?
Wylie, Wylie, Wylie, Wylie, Wylie, Wylie, Wylie, Wylie, Wylie, Wylie, Wylie, Wylie...
"LIHN!"
Tam made his voice sound so much like their father's that Lihn let out half a terrified scream before she formed a water ball and drenched her brother.
"Don't do that again," Lihn growled, waving an arm to dry Tam.
Oops. A bit of a habit now; Lihn used to always lose control and water just seemed to want to make sure that Tam was completely soaked, and she always dried him without a second thought.
"You were spacing out. Again. Sophie just got a hail from Mr. Forkle. We need to go to one of their headquarters, apparently." Tam was already packing his stuff. He pointed to an identical bag close to his. "Pack your clothes yourself, will you, Lihn?"
"Sure." Lihn finished packing quickly ( a talent she found out when she and Tam was banished) and headed over to the others.
Sophie was staring into space, her face twisting into different emotions from time to time. She's probably talking to Mr. Forkle telepathically, Lihn realized.
"Wylie, as oldest, I'm putting you in charge," Alden said in a order-y voice, his face set hard. "Please make sure nobody gets hurt or does something crazy"-he shot a look at Keefe, who was teasing Marella whom was quite red in the face-"and be safe. Your father would never forgive me if..." Alden's voice trailed off as he shook hand with Wylie. "Don't worry, Dad," Biana said, tying her silky hair into a stylish ponytail. "We'll be fine." The youngest Vacker smiled and twined her finger's with Tam's. Lihn's face brightened.
"Okay, everyone good?" Wylie asked, turning towards everyone.
Lihn nodded, as well as everyone else. Except Sophie who was swaying unsteady, her face twisted into concentration.
"If you run into a situation, leap back immediately," Alden ordered, looking on edge.
"Why does everyone think we'll run into trouble?" Marella asked, throwing up her hands in exasperation. Keefe grinned. "Because Foster over there is basically a magnet of trouble," he said, pointing.
"Can we go?" Fitz asked. His hands were on Sophie's shoulders, steadying her as she mumbled something under her breath and swayed harder. Sophie's hands twitched, like she was going to tug on her eyelashes.
Sophie jerked suddenly. Then she blinked, the fog clearing from her uniquely brown eyes, rubbed her temples, and answered, "Yeah, yeah, yeah...let's go."
Fitz lead the way to their Leapmaster and Sophie called out, "Northbrush!"
-Tiny Time Skip-
"This is their secret base?" Wylie yelled over the howling wind. They had appeared in a very cold place. The ground was covered in ice and snow while even more snow continued to fall rapidly.
They were caught in a snowstorm.
"Nice place for it!" Keefe screamed. "I bet they get to build snowmen every day!"
"No! Northbrush is like the Black Swan's transportation spot! It'll take a about a day's walk to get to the actual place!" Sophie shouted back to Wylie, ignoring Keefe's sarcastic comment. "For now, we're gonna have to wait the storm out! Marella, Wylie, can you guys lighten this place up?"
Wylie made a snapping motion with his fingers and a giant ball of light exploded everywhere.
Marella lifted up her arms and a bright ball of fire appeared.
"There!" Fitz called.
"Everyone in that cave!" Wylie said, pointing to a less than cozy looking cave, yet it was better than freezing to death. Linh hesitated before breaking into a run.
Once everyone was in the cave, Marella sparked a fire and everyone huddled around the cave. The cave was really small so everyone could easily feel the heat of the flames and lean on the walls of the cavern.
Sophie leaned against Fitz's chest and he wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "Let's hope we'll get a good night's sleep," Sophie said. "Though I doubt anyone can sleep with that storm going on outside," she murmured under her breath.
Lihn sighed and tried to get as comfortable as she could with Tam on one side and...Wylie on the other. Lihn's stomach did an unexpected cartwheel.
A few hours later everyone was asleep.
Except Lihn.
The fire was still going weakly so Lihn could see sorta everyone:
Sophie was curled up into a ball on the stone floor with Fitz pressing his chest into her back, keeping a protective arm around her waist.
Biana had her head buried into Tam's chest, who was laying on one arm and resting his other hand on her shoulder.
Marella and Keefe were sleeping normally. The only cute part (to Lihn's dismay) was that they were only holding hands in their sleep.
Lihn watched all this with a frown. When was it her turn to finally have someone all to herself? Before she had Tam, but now he seems like he had too many responsibilities to hang out with her 24/7 like before—Lihn would've been fine with a few hours, or a little chitchat, for that matter. And it kinda seemed like Biana was taking him from Lihn. Like the Council did to me and my parents, she thought bitterly. Not that she loved being with her parents, but they were still Lihn's parents.
A few more minutes and the fire died completely.
Linh sighed.
Wish I could sleep, she thought. This darkness feels like it's suffocating me.
A few minutes later, though it felt like hours, Linh finally found a comfortable spot to sleep.
