The morning was very fresh. The ground was wet from dew. There were numerous crows from the poultry on the other side of SisiYaa's hut.

The old lady came out of her hut for a palm broom. She started from her kitchen tent.
Left right and left and right, the marks followed her.
She finished quickly and went on to feed her chickens. Sisi Yaa continued with a few chores until it was almost noon.

Adoley run out of the hut and stopped at seeing Sisi yaa by the fire. She knew it was afternoon. How come she had overslept the night. Oh no, she thought. All her chores had been done.

How long was she going to have to face this silence? She asked herself.

She walked slowly towards the kitchen.
"Good morning Sisi yaa" she greeted. There was no response.

Sisi yaa was peeling potatoes. She stopped to put in more firewood.

Adoley saw she had fresh kontomire on the tray for stew. She knelt close and picked them up to arrange them for cutting.

"Eii obiade3, Eii Eii Eii," Sisi yelled dramatically, " oh, someone sweetheart! Please don't put me into trouble. I will do my own cutting. I don't have a womb that can bear any longer. Go and continue your rest" she struggled take the pan from her.

"Ah Sisi.. Sisi please I beg you in the name of God" Adoley was on her knees. She knew Sisi. She could continue this silent treatment until she, Adoley apologized for whatever wrong.
"Sisi, please I beg you please!"

"In the name of God?! Eii, so you know God. Hehee" Sisi clapped hysterically, "Mary mother of Jesus who knows all of the pills! I hail you! Please let me be. Let me do my thing that I have almost finished" Sisi screamed and snatched the leaves from her.

"I know I've done it wrong please" Tears run Adoley's cheeks. She rubbed her two palms in plea, "Sisi I promise you my honesty from now.."

"Too late Ado! Even the baby didn't want you to wake early. Go and continue your sleep. As for me, I have been having grandchildren. All these years. That's what I do! Have them" she continued peeling her potatoes.

"Sisi please I can swear to you , I'm not pregnant! I swear!" Adoley wished.

"Pills! Yes you've taken them. That's where you're confident! But Lemme tell you one truth Adoley! I am 72 years old today. You are very pregnant!" Sisi dropped her knife.

Adoley put both arms over her head. Her body shook. The tears came all the way to between her breasts. She wiped her nose with her dress. She cried shutting her eyes in pain and yet couldn't scream.

"If anyone had said you'd be dirty! I wouldn't have accepted it!" Sisi cried," you have broken me Ado! You have broken me! I have always boasted of you"

BB was in front of her door. She was sad for Adoley as well. She had brought home tests kits from work the other day. She wanted to wait for a few days to help her check.

Adoley sat on the ground and had her head in both palms. She knew she had been a bad girl. At the age of 17 and waiting to be in senior high school , there was no reason to be sleeping around in the name of love.

BB came to sit by Adoley in front of the hut around evening.
Adoley who was red in the eyes looked at BB.

Araba came passing in just a panty and her protruded foodlum stomach. She stopped and watched them from the goat pen standing akimbo. She screwed up her face and pouted her mouth when her eyes met that of Adoley's.

"I brought you test kits. But we have to wait for about two more days" BB pressed her hands.

"I hate it that I've been hideous to Sisi this while" Adoley cried.

"You must be glad that she is getting over it. She has forgiven you Adoley " BB gave her the guarantee, "but Adoley-"

Adoley looked at BB. BB pursed her lips. She held both her hands and looked straight into her face.

"What is it?" Adoley got alarmed.

BB blurted out "Those pills were expired ..."
