Staring at desserts

Lee Sun Hee

My long brown hair flowed through the air as I walked to school. It was Monday, although I absolutely despise Mondays, it's my bestie Ha-rin's birthday today. She's hosting a party tonight and I'm excessively excited.

As I'm busy, thinking about what gonna wear, I hear the guard yelling at me to walk faster, the gate was about to close. "Yes Mr. Jung I'm coming!" I practically scream, as I frantically run towards my school.

I rush to my class and wave at Ha-rin. I rush towards my seat and wish her happy birthday, literally squealing. "Calm down ladies." Ni-ki whined. He's my neighbour, and we went to the same elementary school. He's consistently been a pain the *very nice word* since we were kids.

But I can't hate him, even though he's a jerk sometimes, we've been though a lot together, he's always been there for me and has never left my side. Well he does that for Ha-rin too, but Ni-ki doesn't fight her, or bother her much (lucky).

"Yah! Ahjussi (a man who is middle-aged or older)! can you shut up!" I rolled my eyes. Ni-ki was just about to flick his finger on my forehead, but suddenly the teacher yells "Three of you, out of my class." It is true we were a nuisance in the class, so I was found outside of classrooms 80% of the time.

After an hour, we walk back into our class and the day went on, finally coming to an end.

"Bye, dumbhead, I'll meet you later!" I say as we separate our ways from Ha-rin.

Ni-ki and I waved goodbye to her, and walked back together, just goofing around the entire time. "I'll pick you up at 7." he said and I nodded, walking towards the entrance of my house.

I entered and started wrapping the gift I had bought for Ha-rin yesterday.

"Tonight will be perfect for this dress" I blurted out as I stared at the beautiful, yet effortlessly gorgeous, beige dress.

7pm

"Wah, I love the fact that you arrived way before time!" I sarcastically stated. "It takes time to look this handsome." he said and twirled. "You look ridiculous, now walk." I scoffed, and started walking ahead of him. He joined me "You know I have longer legs than you, shawty, now gaja (let's go)!" I just rolled my eyes and soon we made our way to Ha- rin's place.

Guests were already arriving and we were late. I looked around in disbelief at how many people were invited.

Our eyes met with the birthday girl, and we walked up to her "Happiest birthday Ha- rin~a!" both of us handed her our gifts and she asked us to enjoy the food. "We sure will, but she sure looks very busy. I mean she looks like a human for once at least." Ni-ki stated after she walked away. "Yah, be nice for once!" I elbowed him "Ah! Arasseo, arasseo (okay, okay)!". Both of us enjoyed the sodas and later Ha-rin joined us too.

"My mom made me invite literally everyone, but there's this one family I've never even heard of, and she put their name in the invites forcefully, I don't even know why!?" Ha-rin ranted but I didn't pay attention, I was too busy looking away from this one guy who made continuous eye contact with me.

How is it humanly possible to stare at someone for this long without literally shaking. Creep.

"Who?" Ni-ki asked.

"Them." she pointed at the same person I was trying not to look at. I finally raised my gaze to look at a drop dead gorgeous guy. "Aniyo (no), he was staring at me like I'm a dessert or something. Weirdo." I didn't realise I said that out loud.

Ni-ki looked pissed off all of a sudden. I could imagine what would happen if I don't stop his rage right now.

But before I could stop him, he slipped away from me and decided to block that weirdo's gaze. "He would've punched that guy if it weren't for my birthday today." Ha-rin said and I absolutely agreed.

"I wanted to have fun with you guys tonight, not get stuck on some dude, let's go Ni-ki." I said as I grabbed Ni-ki's hand and the three of us went to the balcony for some fresh air and goofed around.

An hour passed by and I found myself looking around for that guy, but he was nowhere to be seen.

I must be going crazy, I thought to myself and headed to the kitchen to get some water.

As I turned around "YOU AGAIN!?" I looked at him in disbelief-
