Foreigner from Seattle

Ni-ki

She pushed me away, "It's getting late, we should go home." She says and scratches her neck.

My heart was thumping loudly, so loud, you could almost hear it jump out of my chest. I nodded and just continued to walk.

The soothing silence wasn't so soothing anymore, and it felt like we'd been walking since forever.

I waved at Sun Hee as she entered her front door and guided my feet to my house. "What just happened?" I asked myself, unable to sleep.

It's clear she resists being close to me, I should give it some time before making another move... but what if I'm too late!? Ahh molla!!

Ha-rin

"News! Remember the guy I told you about at the party? HE'S JOINING OUR SCHOOL! TOMORROW" I frantically said as I talked to Sun Hee and Ni-ki.

"WHAT!? okay, but how do you know?" Sun Hee asked. "My mom told me about it. Apparently, even your moms know him. She says he's from the United States, and everyone in the neighbourhood already has unbelievable admiration for him." I finished speaking.

"Ugh, another foreigner? And my mom didn't tell m-"Sun Hee looked at Ni-ki and stopped talking. There was tension between them, but I decided to ignore it since we already had a lot to deal with.

"Oh, and his name is Jay" I stated and turned back to my seat.

"Jay...?" Sun Hee scratched her head. "Is it possible he's-" she left her sentence unfinished and tilted her head.

"He's who?" I tuned around again. "Yah! Kim Ha-rin! NAGASEYO (GET OUT)!" The teacher yelled, and in seconds I was out of the classroom.

Sun Hee

I had been avoiding Ni-ki the entire day, but we did study together in the evening like usual, with nothing but awkwardness filling between us.

The day eventually came to an end. As I walked home, I saw a shadow, the one I see everyday, but no one's really there, I hope it was just speculation, but I'm terrified if my mere speculations are really true.

I ignore it as always, because I already have too much to deal with, I can hardly afford time for doubts over silly things.

I went to bed feeling terrible. Ni-ki and I could've talked it out, but instead we avoided each other.

I can call him!

*Ring*

Ni-ki: Yah, why didn't you talk to me all day!

Sun Hee: You could've approached me first!

Ni-ki: Let's not fight, why did you call?

Sun Hee: To sing a song.

Ni-ki: Be serious for a second-

Sun Hee: About what happened yesterday- I didn't mean to push you away, but I want us to remain as good friends. I'm not sure what your intentions are, I'm sure you have good intentions, but I want to make it clear that we're better off as friends.

Ni-ki: Why are you telling me all this?

Sun Hee: It's just that... if our friendship leads to something else, and if we separate... I'll lose our friendship for what? A break-up? I wont be able to bear it if I... lose you...
Ni-ki? You there?

Ni-ki: I understand... But I want to make it clear I like you... it's okay if you don't like me back.

Sun Hee: It's not that I don't like you, I'm the luckiest to have you as my friend, but Riki... we cannot date.

Ni-ki: Mm... sleep, I'll see you at school tomorrow.

Sun Hee: Goodnight!

Ni-ki: Goodnight...

*Beep*

Ni-ki cut the call before I could. Was that a confession? I think it was. I can't date him, I've never thought of dating him. I think I've unknowingly crossed a few crooked lines between us and I couldn't seem to understand how he felt. Ahh, how do I deal with this!

I closed my eyes and fell asleep, while drowning myself in my thoughts.

Morning

I entered class and walked up to my seat. Class will begin in 10 minutes.

I turned to Ni-ki and greeted him. Surprisingly he responded back as if nothing had happened. Thank god! I took out my books and waited for the teacher to arrive.

"Good morning students! We have a new student joining us today!" Ms. Kim said and smiled.

"Yah! It's that guy at the party right?" I turn to Ha-rin, and she nods in agreement.

"Annyeong (hi)! I'm Jay, I'm from Seattle, United States. I just moved here. I hope we get along!" He said and bowed. I think he looks okay right now. Not as creepy as the other night.

"Go sit beside Ni-ki." the teacher points at the seat. I realise that Ni-ki sits behind me, so if he sits beside
Ni-ki, then he'll be sitting behind me!

"ANDWAE (NO, THIS CAN'T BE)!!!" I yell out loud.
