Revelations

VICTORS VILLAGE WAS QUIET IN DISTRICT FIVE as the Elek's sat down to watch the television. They were practically forced by the capital to do so, especially since this would be the announcement of the quarter quell. Diora's anxiety always surged this time of year, even more since she was in the games herself.

She knew whichever poor souls were chosen would have to suffer the same fate as her and her father, or her dear friend who had passed.

The girl was sat directly between her father, and her mother, all of them linking hands. Her mother, Elissa had gone through the pain of watching her then boyfriend Ulric go through the games, then her her daughter. She was going through as much stress as them, even if there was no way possible they'd have to endure that pain again.

... but, there was.

President Snow appeared on their screens and the trio held each others hands tighter, bracing themselves for whatever he was going to say.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is the 75th year of The Hunger Games. It was written in the charter of The Games, that every 25 years, there would be a Quarter Quell to keep fresh for each new generation the memory of those who died in the uprising against The Capitol. Each Quarter Quell is distinguished by Games of special significance and now on this, the 75th anniversary of our defeat of the rebellion, we celebrate the 3rd Quarter Quell." Crowds started to cheer as Elissa stood up from the couch, hearing the teapot boiling in the kitchen. She headed that way as Snow continued to speak. "As a reminder that even the strongest cannot overcome the power of The Capitol. On this, the 3rd Quarter Quell Games, the male and female Tributes are to be reaped from the existing pool of Victors in each district."

As the old man finished his words, the sound of breaking glass filled Diora's ears. Her mother, Elissa, who had planned to cheer them all up with their favorite tea dropped it, and all the cups onto the ground, all of them shattering. Then, she herself fell to the ground on her knees, letting out a devastated shriek.

All Diora could think about was how God had not blessed the Elek family.
