❝ HE'S HALF OF MY SOUL, Neteyam's eyes opened, but all he could see was white. He was engulfed by incredible warmth.
He thought he had died for a moment, then his vision slowly returned and he was still laying down on the burned soil, his father screamed for him. But he couldn't stand up with the piece of metal laid on his back.
"I'm sorry." He had remembered saying when his father found him, a fear that Neteyam had never seen in his eyes before.
His father hugged him all the way back to the hallelujah mountains, he wished he could have held him back, wrap his bloodied arms around the neck of his father while he carried him like he was still a babe.
He fell asleep after Kiri treated his wounds, Tuk whimpering agains his side as she tried to not injure him more.
"I'm sorry." He murmured against the warmth of something against him, none of his siblings because he could recognize their heartbeat in a second, neither his mother because she always sung to him as he slept. It wasn't his father, whose arms held him always by his shoulders with an iron grip.
"I'm sorry." Neteyam repeats when he doesn't hear anything in reply. He tries to open his eyes, but a hand is held gently over him.
It's raining all of the sudden, cold droplets hit his skin but somehow miss all of his cuts.
The water sinks into his skin, and he sinks into those warm arms again.
AS THE POETS SAY. ❞
