THE ONLY HAND HE EVER HELD was the one of his mother, hard and calloused after years of wielding bows and daggers. He held Tuk countless of times when she was scared, he played with Lo'ak and Spider so many times he knew their fighting patterns like the back of his hand.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Holding Kew'Itan's felt nothing like that. The boy was somehow soft and hard at the same time, smooth skin in the palm of his hands where Neteyam had callouses from holding daggers too long.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎It had been a habit for Kew to take his hand as he lead him through places Neteyam had never seen before. He didn't mind one bit. Even after months spent exploring the other boy seemed to have countless of places to show him.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Where are we going?" He asked when they went deeper between the the roots of their village, leaving the marui behind them.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Patience." Kew reminded him, turning around for a moment to smile at him as a reassurance.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎He remained quiet for the rest of the walk, occasionally helping Kew when he struggled climbing steeper roots.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"See?" Neteyam pulled the other boy to him, recalling what Tonowari had said when they first landed on the islands "Not useless."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎The metkayina scoffed but let himself be held, placing large hands over his shoulders to stabilize himself "Skxawng."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"You like it." He grinned.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Do I?" Kew's eyes narrowed as his ears pulled back.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Come on.." Neteyam tugged his hand and went back towards the direction they were already heading to.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎They ended up in a clearing of rocks, water running over it until it met at the end in a small poor of clear water.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"You slide over this?" He asked again "And you don't die?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Kew laughed and nodded.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"You trust me?"

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎"Of course."

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎Kew tugged him forward and his feet landed on the slippery rocks, for half a second, before he was suddenly sent forward the only thing grounding him was Kew's cheerful laughs that followed him until he collided with a body of water.
