Moments later, Angel is spying on her neighbors again and notices Jack isn't at his place while she hears the man through the walls scolding and insulting Colt for something he did that now the man has to clean up. Angel also sees Dave leave the apartment in a hurry. "Cleaning up" ends up meaning Dave has to find Jack's body and tosses it into the river, using a pole to push it deep underwater.
The next morning, Angel finds the solved cube in the yard, covered with snow. She meets with Colt again in the evening.
"Hi again," Angel said.
"Hello," said Colt.
"Your Colt right?" Angel said.
"Yea," Colt replied, "Your name is Angelina?"
Angel replied, "Yes, it is. But everyone calls me Angel."
"Oh, Nice!" Colt said.
"So how old are you?" Angel asked.
"More or less 14" Colt replied. "I don't know my birthday."
"You can have my Rubik's cube," Angel said happily.
"Thanks but no thanks..." Colt replied. "But I can teach you how to solve it."
So they spend the rest of the evening together, playing.
The following day, the teacher plays a movie for the class, so Angel uses this time to learn Morse code, but unfortunately, Griffin sees her. Later in a hallway, Angel gets cornered by the 3 bullies. "What were you writing?" Griffin said while angry. "WHAT WERE YOU WRITING!?"
"The hell I'll ever tell you! Angel responded.
A pissed-off Griffin hits her with a stick calling her a weak little girl and giving her a scar on her cheek. "Remember, tell anyone and you'll regret it...." Griffin said.
When she returns home, Angel's mother notices the bandage on her cheek.
"What happened!? Are you ok!?" Angel's mom said concerned.
"I'm fine," said Angel. "I just fell during lunch.."
After dinner, she goes outside and meets with Colt and shows him she's reading "Romeo and Juliet" for school, she also gives him a sheet with a key to Morse Code. "What's this for?" Colt said.
"So we can talk through the walls!" Angel responded.
Colt got worried and said: "You can hear me through the walls..."
"Yea, they are thin!" Angel said. "Also, where are your parents?"
"My mom's dead..." Colt said.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Angel said.
"But why was your dad mad at you yesterday?" Angel asked.
Colt doesn't answer the question and instead asks Angel about her parents.
"Oh, I don't have a dad. He died before I was born" Angel said. "Every time I asked about how he died, mom would say he died trying to save us, although she does blame herself for his death...."
"Let's change the subject!" Angel said
"Ok, what's with the bandage?" Colt asked
Angel looked down, and she decides to tell him the truth.
"I'm getting bullied by these boys at school..." Angel said.
Colt didn't like what he heard and tells Angel to fight back.
"I'm afraid..." Angel whimpered.
"You have to come out of your shell, or they'll keep bullying you!" Colt responded. "And if the knife isn't enough, I'll protect you myself."
Angel got skeptical and said: "I don't know Colt, you don't go to my school and you look like someone who can be beaten up by an alley cat! N-no offense."
"None was taken," replied Colt
Colt put his hand on top of Angel's hand and it made Angel's heart skip a beat.
"I'm stronger than I look," Colt said.
