Just a little note from me before you read. This chapter will be split POV between you and Jenna but I will indicate where that happens.
(also I didn't proof read so apologies in advance for any mistakes)
Y/N POV
"alright, breaks over, let's get back to it" Anton my training leader addressed me.
These past couple of weeks have been nothing but intense, in the best way possible. I am not only doing this for myself, but for Jenna, Wayne, Natalie, for anyone who has Jenna's best interest at heart and for all the people who thought they could fuck me over. I have learnt so much about what it means to have real, true grit. Not that I didn't feel as if I had any before, I mean I did get myself out of a situation where my life was on the line, I just don't think I fully understood what it meant. The world always carried on day by day, however I was never truly passionate about anything. Don't get me wrong I loved my old job but I wasn't uber fervent about it. Maybe i'd never realised that's what I lacked in life until this. I'm passionate about keeping the girl I love safe, to ensure she has the best protection possible.I yearned to show up to each training session, to learn new skills and gain knowledge from my mentors. I knew that I didn't have a whole lot of time, and I wasn't carrying out the usual practices of everyone else who was learning all of this. My tasks came quicker and the education process was faster. Everything from protective safety as a standard, to private protection, hypothetical scenarios, real life scenarios, how to work in a team, risk assessments and so much more, it was almost a new thing every day. The pro to all of this is I can still learn from Wayne whilst I am on the job. He insisted to take me under his wing and teach me from his own personal experiences.
Today was my last day and I was learning how to handle a gun safely. This is only ever used in extreme cases, but I still had to be prepared for it. After theory, which we did before lunch, came practice. The fun part. I had about an hour of shooting at different targets.
Jenna and Wayne tagged along to see how I was going and i'm grateful for that. Plus, showing off to Jenna how tough I can be boosts my ego a little bit. Objectively and subjectively I want her to know she's in good hands.
A. Because she needs the protection and
B. I love her, so it's my duty to keep her safe no matter what.
They say never to mix business with pleasure but this is more than that. It's different."Perfect y/n that was really good. You are a fast learner" Anton approached me after I hit my final target of the assessment.
"Thanks Anton. That means a lot coming from you. I knew I had a lot of work in store for me and it hasn't been easy, but I just hope I did well enough to pass." I gave him a smile and removed my safety glasses and ear protection.
"you'll find out at the ceremony in a short while" he shook my hand then tapped my chest and strolled off to his office.
Carrying my sore body toward the front of the building, I see Jenna and Wayne sat there chatting amongst themselves.
"There she is! Our badass!" Wayne spoke first and stood from his seat, Jenna followed suit. He reached for my hand to shake it but pulled me into one of his tough man hugs instead. I try not to react to the slight pain in my shoulder and stomach from my healing wounds. Merely accepting his embrace. "I am so proud of you kid" was whispered in my ear as we pull back.
Jenna stood there with a cheesy grin on her face. She wraps her arms around my neck and I make sure to give her a tight squeeze. Not minding if my wounds told me otherwise, I was always so comforted in her arms. "good job baby, I knew you'd be amazing." I retract to see her eyes already searching for mine, the grin still plastered on her face. So I leant down and gave her a gentle kiss.
"thank you" I replied to her sincerely.
