The door to the room that held Levi and Erika suddenly swung open, revealing the figure of a soldier. He had come to inform the two of the return of the others. Without further ado or any rationality for her safety, Erika immediately ran to the entrance of the building. 

As her legs sprinted forward, her heart began to pray over and over again for the protection of her beloved. Her legs ultimately came to a halt, frozen in place with tears brimming her lids when her eyes met Jean who was holding on to Erwin's left arm. 

Erika ran up to them, looking from Erwin's eyes to his cut-off right hand. The man was barely conscious but he was awake enough to notice her crying.

"I'm fine," he assured despite the girl's tears. 

"You don't look fine at all," she frowned.

"We need to get him to the infirmary," Jean reminded, earning a nod from the girl who stepped aside to give them some room. 

Her fingernails flew up to her lips, the skin of her fingertips meeting ends in between her teeth. She let out a worried sigh, letting her tears run free down her cheeks. Her left hand found its way to her hip while her right hand went to her hair, fingers running through her brown locks. 

She then looked around frantically, landing her eyes on the awaited figure. She ran up to him, catching him by surprise due to their unresolved interaction from days earlier. But before he could say or do anything, she was already tackling him in a tight hug, radiating comforting warmth to the boy. He couldn't help but let his weight fall on her, releasing the tension in his body. 

"I was so scared," she whispered against him. Her waterline leaked once more and Armin could feel her tears contacting the skin of his neck. 

"I know," he murmured softly, nestling his face further in her soft hair. "I'm sorry, Rika," he cooed, unknowingly pressing his lips on the side of her head. "I miss you."

She hugged him tighter, pulling his body closer to her. She could hear his heart beating rhythmically. She wanted to let it stay that way. The words she confessed to Mikasa became truer and truer. She wanted to protect him. She couldn't do that earlier. She hated that, she realized. So from now on, Erika has decided. 

She would do anything in her power -damn the world and the skies- to protect the love of her life.
