I start freaking our looking round the room for my book and when I look in Elizabeths bag as my last hope I found what she had hidden in her bag a few hours ago. Why on earth does Elizabeth have my book? I check the first page and right there was the little message my mum put in the book when she gifted it to me.
This was my favorite when I was younger and I know you'll love it to Ruby

"Elizabeth?" I ask yet again she just hums "why the hell do you have my book?!"
She sat up suddenly looking at me
"What were you doing with my bag?" She responded
"Don't change the subject I lost my book and your bag was the last place I had to look and here it is. So now tell me why do you have my book?" I pressed
"I got curious ok first you told me not to look and then you were hiding something." She tried to explain
"Yes I told you not to look and clearly didn't want to show it to you so you decided it was a good idea to look?!" I shouted you might think I'm being over dramatic but this was private and personal to my and although I may have shown Elizabeth it later she broke my trust and took it behind my back
"Ruby look I'm sorry really I just-" she started but I cut her off
"Don't bother explaining there's no point I'm going to bed." I say turning to my bed and turning off the lights.
"Ruby please just listen." She says
"Don't. Just don't." I say putting the book into my drawer and pulling the covers over my body. I was pissed that book was the only thing I had left of my family if something had happened to it. If Elizabeth had lost it. I don't know what I would do. I also wasn't ready to show Elizabeth that. I liked it being mine just mine and my family's. I soon fall asleep. I wake up late and me and Elizabeth are pulled in to a early morning task although I'm still angry with her. Mum promises us it will be safe and soon we head to the destination Elizabeth try's to talk to me but I ignore her. I open the door to the room we're supposed to go to but soon find it was completely empty. I turn to Elizabeth only to see ten fully armed men barge in. I'm pulled against the wall kicking and screaming. I push trying to run to Elizabeth as men kick and beating Elizabeth. Eventually they tie her up she was almost unconscious when one of the men point the gun to her head.
"NOO!" I scream except it's no use I'm tied to the walls with invisible rope. I watch as the man pulls the trigger. A deafening bang and it's all over. The mean are gone and I'm alone with Elizabeth. I run over to her pulling her head onto my lap.
"Elizabeth no please please." I cry but it's no use. I close my eyes crying when I feel someone shaking me.
"Ruby?Ruby." I hear and the next thing I know I wake up gasping and shaking. I turn and see Elizabeth sat next to me and I instantly hug her.
"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm so so sorry." I sob clinging to her "I should have been so dramatic you were just curious."
"Hey hey it's ok I'm sorry to I shouldn't have gone through your stuff without your permission." She replies still hugging me
We stay safe like that for a little while when I look over at the time. 5:00 if I want to have a shower this morning I should get up now.
"I'm gonna go take a shower. Um thank you for uh helping me." I say awkwardly
"Yeah of course it was no problem." She smiles "but honestly I am really sorry about taking your book." She repeated
"Yeah I know it's ok." I say "it was a kind of in the moment sort of anger I wasn't really thinking straight." I get up and grab a pair a cloths before heading to the shower. Our first fight. It was ridiculous completely unnecessary but oh well we all have our moments. I'm just glad Elizabeth is safe. I get out the bathroom and to my room and Elizabeth is packing her stuff.
"Where are you going?" I asked
"Oh did I forget to tell you they've made my room I'll be moving out this evening." She explained packing more stuff
"Oh." I sigh disappointed it was nice having a room mate.
"Don't be sad I'll still see you all the time." She laughed walking up to me and putting her arms around her neck
"You promise?" I insisted
"I promise." She reply's
"Well I've got to head over to Emma's room and make sure she's awake but I'll see you at breakfast?" I asked
"Absolutely." She answered going back to packing as I walk out the door.
Emma's room isn't far from mine only two rooms down so I was there quickly. I knocked on the door
"Emma you up?" I called. Emma was never a morning person. The door opened
"What could you possibly want this early?" She demanded
"Well it's 5:55am and breakfast is ready at 6am so I just wanted to make sure you were awake." I say
"Ugh fine I'm awake." She says pulling a hoodie over her pajamas and walking out
"How on earth are you up and ready so early?" She asked but I just laughed. I didn't really feel like telling Emma about my nightmares.
"So how long have you and Elizabeth been a thing." She asked
"Will you keep it down? I met her a few days ago and we've been dating for like a day." I reply looking around making sure no one heard her. The last thing I needed was Mrs Turner knowing about me and Elizabeth. She wouldn't approve. I don't think she's homophobic or anything but she hates distractions and in her mind that'll all Elizabeth will be to me. A distraction. We get to the cafeteria and went to grab breakfast but I stopped when I saw what we had. Pancakes. As I said there was no sugar aloud here but she did very rarely give us some sugar. She'd always say I was for special occasions but everyone knew she only ever gave us pancakes when she had bad news.really bad news. And looking around all the others knew something wasn't right as well. I went and grabbed a plate and sat at the back with Elizabeth.
"What's up you seem tense." Elizabeth asks me
"It's nothing just the pancakes." I reply
"What do you not like pancakes?" She laughs
"No of course not it's just Mrs Turner only ever serves pancakes when she has bad news." I tell her
"Oh. Well I'm sure it can't be to bad." She says
I smile at her before looking back down at the pancakes. I used to love pancakes but I started going off them after every time they were served something horrible happened afterwards but I decide not to tell Elizabeth this. Let her enjoy the pancakes. As predicted after everyone had finished Mrs Turner walked in telling everyone she had an announcement.
"Quite down everyone I have an announcement. As you all know we've got an important task coming up. Now we've finalized the list of who's going. If you hear your name please stand up and come to the front. " she said pulling out a list " going on this tsk will be... Helena, Fred, Alice, James, Charlie and Elizabeth." I look up at Mrs Turner trying to see if she was joking. How could she possibly already be sending Elizabeth on a task she's not ready
"You have to be joking." I say standing up staring at Mrs Turner. Elizabeth tries to pull me down again but I don't let her.
"Elizabeth isn't ready you can't send her. It's a suicide mission!" I shout
"Ruby I think you'll find Elizabeth will be plenty safe on this task you don't have to worry." Mrs Turner says glaring at me
"It's alright Ruby I'll be fine." Elizabeth whispers to me before standing up and heading over to stand with the others. Emma keeping hold of my wrist to stop me following. Mrs Turner thanks Elizabeth before her and everyone with her exit the room
"Oh and Ruby." Mrs Turner say turning back "you'll be happy to know Elizabeth's stuff has been moved out your room and to the new room at the end of the hall." She smiles before walking out.
Pancakes. Something bad always happens when we have pancakes. I just didn't think it'd be this bad
