I see people climbing out of cars and I stand by the door waiting to see the girl I really want to see. See she was safe. And there she was. She climbed out the car and she looked like a mess. She was clearly exhausted. But I didn't mind. I was happy she was safe. I run up to her as she goes to pick up the suitcase but I stop her.
"Let me take that you look exhausted." I say picking it up instead
"Hey." She says hugging me
"I missed you." I say
"I missed you too." She replies
"Are you super tired?" I ask and she just nods. I put down her suitcase for a second and before she can protest I pick her onto my back. She pulls away at first but as she realizes what I'm doing she stops and rests her head on my shoulder.
"You've got to get showered before you can go to bed ok I'll take you to the bathroom and get you some clothes then you can sleep." I say
"Actually I've got to talk to Mrs Turner but a shower first sounds nice." She says
"Alright shower, talk to Mrs Turner then bed." I say
"Yeah." She agrees
A few minutes later we're at the bathroom. I put her down and she walks in. I pull her toiletries out her suitcase and hand them to her before going to get her a change of clothes. Ten minutes later Elizabeth comes out. She looks better now she's had a shower. She asks me if I can unpack her suitcase while she talks to Mrs Turner and of course I agree. After Elizabeth talked to Mrs Turner she came back smiling excitedly.
"Alright I know you tired but I've got to tell you my plan for getting the key." I start
"Ruby." Elizabeth says
"Look it's going to sound ridiculous but I need you to trust me."
"Ruby."
"If we do this exactly right it could work only problem is it could easily go wrong so I need you to listen."
"Ruby!"
"What?" I ask and she pulls something out of her back pocket
"I really don't know how I managed it but Mrs Turner just left it laying on the desk I grabbed it." She says before waving the object in front of my face
"The Key!" I exclaimed "you got it!"
"Yeah I did!" She laughs
"That's amazing but now you need rest you can't be tired during our grand escape." I tell her
"Hey Ruby could you..." she starts but then she stops herself
"What were you going to say." I push. She can't just say half a sentence then change her mind
"It's nothing. I was going to ask yo to stay but that would mean you'd miss dinner." She answered
"Hey no I'd love to stay I've had a big lunch and I've said goodbye to Emma, who knows by the way, so I'll stay ok." I say climbing into bed next to her. She falls asleep fast due to exhaustion and I soon fall asleep as well. I slowly wake and check the time to see we have forty minutes left. I quickly wake Elizabeth up.
"What? What time is it?" She asks
"It's 8:20pm we have forty minutes I thought we should go over the plan." I say
"Oh yeah sure." Sh agrees
I talk her through everything we're going to be doing
"And one more thing no weapons." I say
"What that's ridiculous why no weapons?" She complains
"Because your still tired and we're not fighting anyone. No weapons ok that's final." I state
"Fine." She reluctantly agrees. I do plan on bringing a knife in my shorts just in case but Elizabeth was tired I didn't need her fighting. Besides we planned this through. We won't need weapons. I look over at the clock to see we have fifteen minutes left.
"I'm going to head to my room and get anything I'll need ok you wait here." I say walking out the door.
"Alright." She replies as I walk out.
I walk back to my room me take a look around. I didn't have time to pack. Not that it's safe to bring anything at all really but I guess I was hoping to be able to bring something's. I walk over to my desk and open the top draw pulling out the book my mum gave me. I flip it open and pull out the page my mum signed for me. I knew I couldn't bring the whole thing but I could keep the page my mum signed. I take one last look around looking for anything I may need. I mean it's unbelievable that Tonight We were going to escape. Tonight we will finally have the life I've always wanted. Tonight was the start of something I've been waiting for my whole life. Me and Elizabeth have everything we need. She's grabbed some money we have a plan and tonight we are going to be free I've laid the pillows out on my bed to look like I'm asleep before I grab the knife and tuck it into my shorts then I turn out my lamp before making my way over to Elizabeth's room. Like always I knock three times and the door swings open revealing Elizabeth who looks worried yet excited. I sneak into her room again and she shuts the door behind me.
"Hey." I whisper
"Hey." She replied
"So are You ready for tonight?" I ask
"As ready as I'll ever be." She looks over at me smiling "I'm glad we're doing this."
I smile back about to reply when I hear Mrs Turner. I duck inside the closet and Elizabeth quickly climes under the covers of her bed and I hear Mrs Turner open the door. She looks around and she stops for a second looking directly at the closet. Just as I think we were about to be caught she turns around and walks out the door. I let out a small sigh as the door closes and the light of the room vanishes. I step out the closet and I see Elizabeth sit up, so I go sit next to her putting my arm around her shoulder. We sit like that for what seems like forever until we hear Mrs Turner walking away and locking the door as she usually does. Elizabeth smiles over at me pulling out the key she stole from her desk. Together we creep out the door and to the end of the hall. Elizabeth slips the key into the lock and with a quite click it's open. I feel the adrenaline rushing through me as we sneak down corridors towards the exit. We're so close I can almost see the exit when suddenly I hear sirens. Loud sirens that almost burst my ears and red flashing lights all around. I look over at Elizabeth and we realize we've been caught. We see figure in a mask in the distance running towards us. Me and Elizabeth both take off running as fast as we could. We see gates covering the exit and start running faster. But by the time we make it to the exit it's already locked. We're stuck. But we haven't yet failed. There has to be another way.
"Follow me." I shout over the sirens
"Where too?" Elizabeth shouts back
"I don't know but there has to be another way." I reply and we start running in the other direction but we see the figure now much closer we can see she's a girl and she clearly doesn't want us leaving. I pull the knife out my shorts and Elizabeth looks over at me
"I thought we agreed no weapons." She said
"Yeah well it's lucky I don't listen isn't it." I reply
"Yeah well I didn't listen either." She says pulling another knife out her shorts
We both start fighting but we're out matched. Even with two of us whoever this is their good. Elizabeth is knocked back and now it's just me and the girl. We started fighting again and I managed to pull the mask off but before I start fighting again the face underneath the mask stops me
"Emma?!"
